Arnold he eagle has landed — at the top of the national home video charts for the week ended Jan. 4. Paramount Home Entertainment’s release of DreamWorks’ Eagle Eye, an action thriller that grossed $101.1 million in the United States, soared to the top spot on both the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart and Home Media Magazine’s rental chart its first full week of release. The film had been released with a Saturday street date, so its first chart appearance was last week, after just one day in stores (Dec. 27). On the sales chart, Eagle Eye rose to No. 1 from No. 16, ousting Warner’s The Dark Knight from the top spot. On the rental chart Eagle Eye T jumped to No. 1 from No. 4, replacing the Universal Studios comedy Burn After Reading as the week’s most in-demand rental title. On the Blu-ray Disc chart, also from Nielsen VideoScan, Eagle Eye shot to No. 2 from No. 9, generating 98.4% as many sales as top-ranked The Dark Knight. The top 10 sellers as well as renters are all holdovers, with no prominent new release arriving in stores last week. Walt Disney Studios’ Wall-E did particularly well, rising a notch to No. 4 on the sales chart seven weeks after its release. Paramount’s Iron Man, however, takes the cake for longevity in the First Alert top 20. The blockbuster finished the week at No. 16, after 14 weeks in stores.
