Paramount/DreamWorks Horror 10 Batman Films Fly to the Top By Stephanie Prange atmania hit the video sales charts for the week ended July 13, as consumers anticipated the new Batman film, The Dark Knight, hitting theaters July 18. Two titles with plots linked to the new theatrical installment, Warner Home Video’s animated direct-to-video title, Batman: Gotham Knight, and the last theatrical installment in the franchise, Batman Begins, took the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart for the week. The two Batman titles also topped the Bluray Disc chart for the week, but in reverse order. Batman Begins took the top spot, and Batman: Gotham Knight came in at No. 2 in the high-definition arena. B Vantage Point, last week’s top selling and renting video title with a box office gross of $72.3 million, repeated as the week’s No. 1 rental, according to Home Media Magazine research. It came in at No. 3, behind the Batman titles, on the sales chart. Last week’s No. 2 rental, Drillbit Taylor, retained the same spot for a second consecutive week on Home Media Magazine’s rental chart. Newcomers The Ruins, from Paramount Home Entertainment and DreamWorks, and Stop-Loss, also from Paramount, took the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively, on the rental chart. They finished at No. 4 and No. 9, respectively, on the sales chart. The Ruins pulled in $17.4 million at the box office, and Stop-Loss made $10.9 million theatrically.
