Virgin Territory stars Hayden Christensen as Lorenzo di Lamberti, a lovable scoundrel with plenty of ladiesin-waiting. But the one he wants is the one he can’t seem to have, lovely Pampinea (Mischa Barton), who is betrothed to marry Count Dzerzhinsky (“Brothers & Sisters’” Matthew Rhys) and is also being vigorously pursued by villainous nobleman Gerbino (Tim Roth). Writer-director David Leland said he didn’t want to make the film episodic — The Decameron consists of 100 novellas. Rather, he focused on some of the steamier aspects, such as adapting the story of a character (in this case, Christensen’s) who pretends to be deaf and mute in order to work as a gardener at a convent. Needless to say the nuns don’t exactly hold to their vows of chastity. “If it wasn’t racy, then I think it wouldn’t be true to Boccaccio,” Leland said. “What Boccaccio did is put together stories he had picked up all over the place. A lot of the stories were stories you’d hear guys tell each other in the pub.” But, as with most adaptations, Leland took some liberties with the stories. “The part about the young men running off into the countryside and having sex with farm girls … that’s entirely an invention of my torrid mind,” Leland said. “We did set out to kind of see how far we could push Actor Hayden it in terms of that.” Christensen stars The DVD is being released under in director David Anchor Bay’s new Unzipped label, and Leland’s Virgin as such, offers sexy special features Territory including uncensored scenes deemed too provocative for the film itself. Featurettes include “David Walliams: Cart Pusher” and one on designer Roberto Cavalli’s costume work. “outstanding fantastic thought-provoking and powerful” - VideoViews.org ACADEMY AWARD® WINNER Koch Spins Out ‘Hollywood Singing and Dancing’ Disc By Billy Gil FOREST WHITAKER ACADEMY AWARD® NOMINEE VIRGINIA MADSEN ACADEMY AWARD® NOMINEE MINNIE DRIVER Prebook date: 09/02/2008 Street date: 10/07/2008 RIPPLE EFFECT / DVD 83 min./Color/Cat# 323112 UPC: 0 12233 23112 0 ISBN: 978-1-56994-658-9 $24.95/SRP for ordering assistance Call 1 800 424 2593 www.montereymedia.com monterey media… a uniquely independent studio Koch Entertainment will release the two-disc Hollywood Singing and Dancing: A Musical History Oct. 14 (prebook Sept. 16) at $29.99. DISC TARGETS EXPECTANT FATHERS By Chris Tribbey F inding a DVD geared toward expectant mothers isn’t all that difficult, but finding one geared toward expectant fathers is nearly impossible. That changes Oct. 7 when Being Dad streets from Seedsman Group (DVD $29.99). Filled with interviews with dozens of new and soon-to-be fathers, as well as family counselors, midwives and obstetricians, the DVD aims to fill a gap in the parenting aisle. “There was such a desire for information from all over the country that we decided to put a video together to help men prepare for parenthood,” said creator Sam Holt. Co-creator Troy Jones added: “When I was pregnant, or at least my wife was, my friends and I were amazed at the lack of parenting tools for men. We felt there was a real need for a product that was entertaining, brutally honest, to the point and easy to watch.” 28 Home Media Magazine August 24–30, 2008 http://www.homemediamagazine.com http://VideoViews.org http://www.montereymedia.com http://www.montereymedia.com
