I DAVIE & GOLIMYR >> Available now, Anchor Bay, Animated, $14.98 DVD, Not rated. ombine classic fairy tale imagery with a new hybrid form of animation and one of the most beloved Bible stories, David and Goliath. The result is Davie & Golimyr. 1 SAMUEL 17:47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands. The characters have a unique look because they are based on the art of James C. Christensen, and the dialogue is delivered in rhyme with a consistent cadence the entire time. Davie desperately wants to help defend his homeland against the invading C giant, Golimyr, but he’s not allowed because he’s too small. The King issues a decree calling for the bravest men to come forward to battle the giant. Nobody comes forward, except Davie. Davie travels with his faithful flying sheep, Chops, to defend the kingdom when no other heroes can be found. Eventually the king has faith that God has brought Davie to him to be the champion of the people and allows him to battle the giant. The ending is different than you may remember, but it’s appropriate for the younger crowd who will be watching it. The biggest star in the film is John Schneider (“The Dukes of Hazzard”) who voices Golimyr the Giant. The storyteller narrates the adventure and properly inserts humor and spiritual axioms that children can understand. Overall it’s a good story that is faithful to the principals of the biblical story and reinforces that everyone should maintain faith in the God who is able to deliver them. – Pastor Len Evans Christian rating: Entertainment rating: ### always seem to enjoy movies based on true stories, and Moondance Alexander is a shining example of this. Moondance (Panabaker) is a teenage girl mourning the recent death of her father. She is a bit of an outcast due to her simple but honest values and the fact she does not dress like the other girls at school. One day a horse wanders across her path as she is making deliveries for her parttime job. She befriends the pinto, and convinces its owner, Dante Longre (Johnson), to allow her to ride the horse in return for some morning chores. When Moondance learns that Dante once won a race at the Devonshire Grand Prix, she gets the idea to enter the pinto into the local horse competition, a decision that draws snickers from some of the other girls who scoff at the idea of the horse doing well in a competitive event. Dante believes in Moondance and uses all his teaching gifts to help her prepare for the race. LUKE 11:9 So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. This movie has more than one positive theme, including showing courage, letting go of the past, and loving the people in your life. The film is wholesome, with some good performances from the leads. Young Panabaker brings Moondance Alexander to life. The conclusion will have you cheering, and as you remember the film is based on a true story, your wonder and enjoyment will grow. You will no doubt soon be telling others about this film after seeing it, and when they ask, “Moondance what?” tell them, “Trust me. It is well worth viewing.” – Rev. Edwin L.
