The creators of www.homemediamagazine.com I FIREPROOF N Jonathan Swift’s timeless fantasy comes to life in this song-filled, feature-length animated film. Following the adventures of the shipwrecked sailor Gulliver among the tiny people of Lilliput, this family classic has enchanted audiences for generations and is considered one of the greatest achievements in animation history. ALL-NEW PICTURE AND SOUND ON BLU-RAY™ AND DVD · Restored and re-mastered from the original source 35mm film and enhanced for 16x9 allowing you to see more picture than ever before! · Three Audio Options: Restored Original Soundtrack, Enhanced Stereo and New 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound vorce seems imminent, Caleb’s father asks him to wait 40 days and gives him a book of tasks to perform each day. This is a tie-in with The Love Dare, a self-help book from the makers of the film designed to get spouses to think less of themselves and more of their partnership. Caleb’s troubles at home stand in contrast with his job, where he is always in control of the situation. The symbolism is pretty obvious. He fights fires for a living but can’t put out the fires at home. The film is clearly designed for a niche audience, and anyone not wanting a lecture about faith would be advised to steer clear. There are some heartfelt scenes that more-cynical individuals might consider laughable (Caleb’s internal struggle with Internet porn being a prime example). The target audience is going to eat this up. The performances are sincere, and the script is driven by simple poignancy. Some scenes involving the firehouse crew are quite funny in their own right and provide a needed respite from the heavyhandedness of the marriage lessons. But even cynics may appreciate a special “Fireproof in 60 Seconds” short on the DVD, which condenses the plot into a hilarious minute-long clip that basically spoofs the film. – John Latchem BLU-RAY SPOTLIGHT The second feature-length animated film in America Features the classic songs “All's Well,” “Faithful Forever” and “It's a Hap-Hap-Happy Day” INCLUDES FULLY RESTORED BONUS FEATURES: • Two classic Gabby cartoons from the outtakes of GULLIVER’S TRAVELS I THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION Warner, Drama, $34.99 Blu-ray, ‘R’ for language and prison violence. Unfortunately, Warner did not bother to upgrade any of its standard-definition extras. The only exclusive content offered is a 30-page color booklet. A highlight of the recycled extras is an excellent director commentary from Frank Darabont that includes the fascinating story of adapting the Stephen King novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. The visual and audio upgrades to HD are excellent, which should entice many to get this BD. Anyone who didn’t buy the 2004 DVD now has a must-have Shawshank for – John Gaudiosi their library.
