Titles include Finding Nemo I ITUNES HAS ‘GET SMART’ SNEAK PREVIEW Warner Bros. Pictures has put a sevenminute sneak preview of Get Smart exclusively on the iTunes Store as a free download. The clip features an introduction from stars Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway. Later in the month, iTunes will offer an exclusive clip from Warner DTV release Get Smart’s Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control, which hits iTunes, DVD and Blu-ray July 1. – Billy Gil T (through June 13), Monsters, Inc. (June 16-20), Haunted Mansion (June 30-July 4), Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (July 7-11), The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (July 14-18), Freaky Friday (July 21-25) and Peter Pan (Aug. 4-8). All movies (beginning with Monsters, Inc.) air first on Disney-owned ABC’s Wonderful World of Disney (Saturday evenings), followed by Disney.com. In addition the site June 23 will stream the original Disney Channel movie Camp Rock, following its TV premiere June 20, ABC network airing June 21 and ABC Family broadcast June 22. The stream will allow online viewers to chat and play games while the movie is playing. I CRACKLE DEBUTS SERIES Sony Pictures Entertainment online video network Crackle has updated its lineup of original programming with nine shortform scripted series spanning a variety of genres. – John Latchem Netflix Wants More Set-Top Boxes By Erik Gruenwedel etflix’s foray into movie distribution to the TV via a proprietary set-top box has apparently caught on with consumers — or may have simply hit supply problems. Reed Hastings, president and CEO of Los Gatos, Calif.-based company, is reportedly urging the device’s manufacturer, Roku Inc., to up production N on the $100 box that lets Netflix’s 8.2 million subscribers stream movies and TV shows from the Internet to the TV for free. Netflix launched the box, which can be purchased at www.Roku.com, last month. Netflix spokesperson Steve Swasey, who confirmed the device’s backorder status, said Hastings had made no official statement about product shortages, and believed comments attributed to the CEO by the Los Angeles Times emanated from an analyst briefing. Tim Twerdahl, VP of consumer products at Roku, said orders were being filled on a two-week delay with new inventory arriving weekly. He wouldn’t comment on the quantity of the initial production run of settop boxes, but said replacement ship- ments numbered in the thousands. Twerdahl denied there was any plea from Hastings to up production, and said the two companies were working to solve the shortages. “The box has been super popular,” Twerdahl said, admitting that both critical and consumer praise for the box had caught privately held Roku by — pleasant — surprise. “We’re absolutely thrilled,” he said. I MISSOURI SUBPOENAS TIVO TiVo said it had been subpoenaed in April by Missouri’s attorney general regarding whether it engaged in unlawful merchandising practices in connection with a rebate program.
