New to London On the move Rosewood Hotels & Resorts named Lionel Alvarez managing director of Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort. He comes to the property from his position as general Lionel Alvarez manager at Aquapura Vale Do Douro Hotel, Villas and Spa in Portugal. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide named Denis Thouvard general manager of the Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa, A Luxury Collection Hotel. Also, Samantha Spurgeon now is the director of sales & marketing in The Americas for Starwood Hotels & Resorts of French Polynesia. Corinthia Hotels International appointed Morten Ebbesen general manager of the Corinthia Beach Resort in Malta. Corinthia also welcomed Stefan Buchs as general manager of the Corinthia Hotel Prague and vice president of Western and Central Europe, where he will be responsible for all of CHI’s operations and profitability in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Portugal and Russia. Preferred Hotel Group expanded its management team in the Asia Pacific region to include Lynne Ireland, Mark Simmons and Ananya Narayan. Ms. Ireland will serve dual roles, as managing director of Preferred Boutique brand and area managing director, South Pacific. Mr. Simmons will take on the role of area managing director, Asia. Mr. Narayan was promoted to senior vice president, global strategy, and also will serve as area managing director for India, Middle East and Africa, where he will facilitate growth and increase brand visibility. Lynne Ireland GUOMAN HOTELS A new brand has entered the luxury scene: Guoman Hotels introduced itself at a private dinner at The London New York Hotel. Guoman Hotels begins as a £150 million investment to restore five luxury hotels in London and it intends to expand to Asia. Mark Simmons Ananya Narayan Morton Ebbesen Award winner Stefan Buchs LUXURY HOTELIER Beverage consultants Fred Tibbitts & Associates honored Niki Leondakis, chief operating officer, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, [right, with Mary Malloy, associate publisher, HOTEL DESIGN], with the Lifetime Excellence Award at its spring dinner in New York. Dr. Manoj Babu Kutteri will serve as the manager of the Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa’s oceanfront Kai Mer Spa on St. Lucia, where he will be Manoj Babu Kutteri responsible for the day-to-day operations and the development and facilitation of new programs at the spa. Executive Chef Eric Frechon of the Hotel Le Bristol Paris was awarded a 2008 “Espoir” from the Michelin Red Guide for culinary success and the Legion d’Honneur for civil service. The Fairmont Scottsdale (Arizona) Princess welcomed Mark Bronke, who previously served as director of food & beverage at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers as its Mark Bronke director of food & beverage. In this position, he oversees the operations of seven food-andbeverage outlets. The hotel also named Christopher Kerr its director of sales & marketing. Chris Kerr He most recently was director of marketing at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Chicago. Dirk De Cuyper, former general manager at the Hilton Sanya Resort & Spa on Hainan Island in China, joined Conrad Hotels & Resorts as general manager of the new Dirk De Cuyper Conrad Shanghai. Before the pre-opening phase of the 362-guestroom hotel in August, Mr. De Cuyper will be responsible for appointing a team to operate the hotel.
