From water to books, Trump has lent his moniker to a wide range of products, some successful, some less so. But this time, with his latest move into hotels, Mr. Trump and his family are poised to reach a new level of luxury. The Trump Hotel Collection, launched October 2007 with the Trump International Hotel & Tower New York, now is three hotels strong just four months into the new year. The Chicago property opened January 30, and the Las Vegas property opened March 31. Donald Trump, chairman and president, and his adult children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric, oversee the hotel division while maintaining positions at The Trump Organization. W The hospitality industry is a natural progression for The Trump Organization. While the Trump family handles the bricks and mortar, industry veteran Jim Petrus was hired to serve as chief operating officer of Trump Hotel Collection. As leader of the brand, his role is to liase with the family and the leadership teams at the three properties. Mr. Petrus says he was attracted to the opportunity because Mr. Trump and his family members are known as world-class developers. “They are real-estate people, but they recognized that hospitality has a different angle and edge to it,” Mr. Petrus says. “Hospitality is built on people. We’ve spent a lot of time focusing on how you develop a culture.” Mr. Petrus says the Trump hotel brand’s culture is built on Donald Trump’s enthusiasm and drive, and that those qualities can be extended successfully to luxury hospitality. The Trump International Hotel & Tower Las Vegas is the organization’s latest experiment in bringing the Trump name to life. The hotel sits on land previously occupied by Frontier Casino. With 64 stories, it has 1,282 suites available for condo purchase. Prior to the hotel’s opening, the Las Vegas executive team felt the Trump hotel brand was tangible. Even during the construction phase, the Trump International Hotel & Tower Las Vegas cast a gilded glow on The Strip.
