Luxury Hotelier - April 2008 - (Page 32) 32| Deliver Workday style Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos shows the luxury lodging market that rock n’ roll is alive and well in uniform design L os Angeles-based fashion designer Lor-e Phillips’ collaboration with Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am is the latest in celebrity- and couturierdesigned hotel uniforms that blurs the line between staff wear and style wear. The duo created a uniform line exclusive to Hard Rock Hotel and Casino properties, and the line debuted at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego (Calif.) in March. The collection, comprising 27 uniform combinations for men and women, includes signature elements such as puffed sleeves, tonal lizard brocades and Hard Rock’s trademark signature tattoo prints. The line projects an edgy, rock n’ roll vibe, with a nod to the upscale trend Hard Rock is promoting in its new properties. The brand’s goal is to roll out the uniforms in eight Hard Rock hotels this year. With a background in fashion design and his own urban clothing line, will.i.am was a natural. “My goal was to create a look that exudes upscale rock n’ roll, leveraging the essence of the brand while contemporizing the staff’s wardrobe to provide a more stylistic and fashionforward appearance,” he says. Styles are customized to each Hard Rock location and job function. Menswear uniforms (inset) are more tailored, while the Biloxi, Mississippi, uniform (right) has a more relaxed Southern style, with purples, browns and bronzes.
