Luxury Hotelier - June 2008 - (Page 24) 24| Properties from the top Owner Daniela Sauter’s “home away from home” philosophy drives every aspect of Berlin’s Brandenburger Hof Hotel. » BY IRENE MIDDLEMAN THOMAS rom the first moment they enter the Brandenburger Hof, guests are engulfed with a feeling of peaceful escape. Situated on a maple tree-lined street, just a block from the rushing shoppers of Berlin, the Brandenburger Hof is an exquisitely polished gem of a small, exclusive hotel. The hotel greets its visitors with a calming cream and sea-moss green lobby, bedecked with flowers, sleek black leather couches and an Italian wire-and-crystal chandelier with hanging droplets. Built at the turn of the last century, this classical palace now has a new life, personally supervised and hosted by its owner, Daniela Sauter. “It is our pleasure to be your home away from home,” says Markus Otto Graf, director. “As a guest of the Brandenburger Hof, requiring anything from a vibrant setting for a private banquet, a discreet place for family and friends to indulge, or a stylish meeting room for a business representation, the Brandenburger Hof’s staff is well-trained to represent the owner’s philosophy of being, at all times, the attentive host by whom she believes her guests should be cared for in her house.” Markus Otto Graf Mr. Graf adds that regular weekly training sessions, as well as daily staff meetings to inform about the individual guest reservations and requirements, are probably not very different from any other German hotel in the five-star class. “But it is Daniela Sauter,” he says, “who is ever present as the patron of her house—in that old fashioned way nowadays not too often found in hotels—that makes the difference between us and the others.” Boasting five stars, 14 suites and 58 rooms, the property is located in the center of Berlin, close to Kurfürstendamm. Hundred-year-old Prussian-style elegance, art and classical modern architecture characterize the ambiance, yet touches of Italian design and flair are seen throughout. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group, the Brandenburger Hof also is home to Die Quadriga, the 17-point Gault Millau Direction F The six-story Brandenburger Hof features rooms and suites from 300-700 square feet.
