English Heritage, were commissioned by Rosewood to faithfully recreate a true 19th-century residence to the tune of £1 million (about US $2.02 million) per room. All recently refurbished, the Regency-style rooms are richly appointed. Measuring a whopping 2,900-square-feet of quiet opulence (approximately 269 square meters), the Royal Suite overlooking Hyde Park is the largest. Booked 60 percent of the time at rack rate in 2006, the suite features three bedrooms, a drawing room, a large dining area, and a study and prep kitchen. But the pièce de résistance for booking it is the on-demand chauffeur who will tool Royal Suite occupants around town in a Rolls-Royce Phantom. The hotel operates its own fleet of Mercedes, BMWs and Phantoms. “The Royal Suite is indeed our most popular accommodation,” says rooms division manager Michael Naylor-Leyland. “Our four one-bedroom Buckingham Suites [convertible to two] also top the list of preferred rooms.” Wrinkle Free enables guests to dewrinkle their clothing with the touch of a button. All guests have to do is place their ensemble in the stall, push a button and within minutes they are ready to go. Wrinkle Free is also a cost cutter. When guests use the regular shower’s hot water to steam their bathroom to de-wrinkle clothing, they usually run water for up to 20 minutes, which wastes over 40 gallons of hot water. Wrinkle Free utilizes less than one quart of water to steam clothes to satisfaction. Simple, e cient, and green make it a true winner for your guests and you: the hotel owner or operator. “Your hotel guests can enjoy a warm, luxurious, and soothing steam bath in the privacy of their shower, at the touch of a button.” Samantha Brown, The Travel Channel Amenity advantage Mr. Gelardi’s competitive spirit led to several amenities upgrades in the past two years: complimentary unlimited telephone calls to land lines in the European Union and United States; butlers carrying wireless personal digital assistants so guests can e-mail requests any time of day from anywhere in the world; England’s first tea sommelier; the three-treatment-room Spa Studio featuring products from La Prairie and Comfort Zone; and a 24/7 fitness studio. Alternatively, exercise equipment can be placed in larger rooms and spa services are offered en suite. “Revenue derived from guests’ telephone usage has been dropping for five or six years now, what with today’s mobile phone technology and lower rates,” Mr. Gelardi explains. “And what do we do as an industry to counter that?
