38| Properties Golden triangle gem This Parisian hotel blends tradition with modernity H otel Fouquet’s Barrière celebrates its first anniversary in November, crowning a year as Paris’ newest gem of the lively 8th arrondissement. The Haussmann-style hotel, with interior design by Jacques Garcia, is a blending of classic Parisian style and modern technology. LUXURY HOTELIER asked general manager Eric Boonstoppel how the property moves into the future without leaving the past behind. Bar Le Lucien connects to La Galerie Joy, a place for an afternoon tea, light dishes and late-night cocktails. The hotel has an 8,600-square-foot (about 800 square meters) spa, including a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and fitness center. This space features slate, woodwork and precious mosaics. Last but not least, we have a dedicated 24-hour butler service available for all room categories. combining tradition and modernity. Hotel Fouquet’s Barrière inherited a part of Fouquet’s restaurant’s soul and we are proud each year to organize Les Césars movie awards, and other prestigious awards ceremonies. Q: Tell us about the special features in Hotel Fouquet’s Barrière: A: The property offers 107 rooms, including 40 suites, and it perfectly embodies both past and future. Le Diane, the hotel’s gourmet restaurant, is built in the shape of a rotunda. The atmosphere is chic, discreet and elegant, and serves French cuisine by award-winning chef Jean-Yves Leuranguer. The hotel also houses Le Fouquet’s Restaurant, a legendary French brasserie, opened in 1899 on the Champs-Elysées. Q: How long have you been general manager? A: I’ve been general manager for about five years now. I joined the Lucien Barrière Group in 1993 and after a first experience at the Royal Barrière in Deauville I had the opportunity to move to the Majestic Barrière in Cannes, another member of the Leading Hotels of the World. I was promoted to general manager in 2002 and feel lucky and thankful every day. Q: What sets this property apart from competitors? A: Hotel Fouquet’s Barrière is located in the golden triangle, where the ChampsElysées meets Avenue George V, steps away from the Grand Palais and the Louvre Museum. It perfectly embodies the French Art de Vivre. We are also proud to be a Frenchfamily-owned Parisian palace. Hotel Fouquet’s Barrière is part of the Lucien Barrière Group. Barrière generate buzz as a hot spot? A: Our hotel is the most recent Parisian palace. It’s the first fully digital property in Paris. We have plasma-screen TVs in every room and bathroom, and Wi-Fi Internet access in public areas and in all rooms. The design is innovative and audacious, Q: How do you and your staff meet and exceed guest expectations? A: We pay attention to every detail. Thanks to our experience in the luxury hotel industry, the training of our staff, the comments of mystery guests and our certifications, we work to make our guests’ stays memorable. We send a “favorites” form to the client each time a reservation is made. This document enables us to know our guests better so we can anticipate their preferences and welcome them with the most appropriate amenities such as fruits, chocolates, musical atmosphere and flowers. We definitely want to build trustworthy relationships with our guests. Q: Share some stories about meeting guests’ needs: A: The hotel was granted ISO 9001 certification only six months after opening. We have a constant care for our guests’ satisfaction and we strive for excellence. Luxury is linked to custom-designed service. That’s why we have aroundthe-clock butler service and Clefs d’Or concierges. Q: Describe your favorite space in the hotel? A: My favorite place is the inner courtyard of the hotel, our beautiful terrace, which is a true haven of peace in the middle of the lively golden triangle district.
