Luxury Travel Advisor - May 2008 - (Page 9) AN ARROWLEAF condominium bedroom (left) affords views of the wintry mountainside. IN-ROOM DINING can be en- joyed at a table for eight with a sweeping view at Arrowleaf (below). each with its own personal DVD player. We savored up-close views of the slope, as well as Arrowleaf' s landscaped patio and Jacuzzi, through floor-to-ceiling windows and from our sizeable balcony. A few things to know before booking: Butler/personal staff service isn' t a standard offering, but can be arranged upon request; just ask Director of Operations Dylan Taylor (dylant@deervalleylodging. com; 435-731-0689), who can also arrange for the placement of in-room exercise equipment, welcome baskets, special room amenities and private chef service. Additionally, there are no restaurants on-site, so be sure to inquire about off-site dining reservations. If clients enjoy in-room dining from time to time, survey their grocery preferences and ask Taylor to see to it that their kitchen is fully stocked upon check-in. (We arrived to find our fridge and pantry filled with our favorite sundries, right down to the caféstyle Splenda sticks for our freshly ground Starbucks coffee.) Taylor also can arrange in-room massages, as Arrowleaf doesn' t have a spa of solid with celebrities during SundanceÐ but couldn' t sneak a peek inside one room, as the hotel was filled to capacity. To personally book Stein Eriksen spa treatments on behalf of VIPs, contact a reservations agent or Spa Director Jill Fisher (spa@steinlodge.com; 435645-6475). For a stay at Arrowleaf during President' s Day weekend, the Sundance Film Festival or Christmas, plan to book accommodations six months to one year in advance. Clients who want to stay slopeside but closer to the action will fall under the spell of the Goldener Hirsch Inn (www. goldenerhirschinn.com), which we found nothing less than magical. The Inn' s location, steps from Deer Valley' s lodge, lifts, shops and restaurants, only adds to its inherent appealÐt he intimate hotel was modeled after the original Salzburg, Austria property, right down to its handcrafted furnishings, Alpine accoutrements and cuisine. The Inn' s 20 rooms all feature fireplaces, king-size beds and, with the exception of three lobby- wall-mounted flat-screen TV and gas fireplace that ignited with the flip of a switch. A charming, kidfriendly touch, the smaller of the unit' s two bedrooms features four compartment-style bunk beds, its own. Or, ask him to arrange a visit to Stein Eriksen Lodge (www.steineriksenlodge.com) for clients who prefer a total spa experience. We stopped by the world-famous hotelÐ it' s booked level units, private terraces. Choose Grand Suites 306, 401 and 402 for clients hoping to hole up in top-tier rooms (Deluxe Suites are an advisable alternative). Units 202, 203, 204, 302, 303 and 402 boast the best views. To book, contact Lodging Sales Manager Doug Whitlock (doug@goldenerhirschinn.com; 435-649-7770), who showed us around the adorable Inn. Though there' s no spa at the Goldener Hirsch, a room on the top floor of the hotel is equipped with a Jacuzzi and sauna, and two treadmills occupy the upperlevel landing. Our favorite stop on the Goldener Hirsch tour was the hotel' s ground-floor signature restaurant, whose air was fragrant with the aromas of fondue, Weinerschnitzel and Apfel Strudel. The restaurant is open to the public, thus Whitlock recommends reserving a table at least one month in advance, farther out for peak season visits (President' s Day and Christmas). Though insiders won' t reveal celebrity guests, we did learn that the U.S. Ski Team would take over the hotel' s meeting rooms the day after our visit. Note: The Goldener Hirsch Inn is seasonal, and is open during winter and summer months. Book one year in advance for a stay during peak season and mid-March. Without question the hippest hotel in town, The Sky Lodge (www.theskylodge.com) opened in December 2007 on what is arguably Old Town Park City' s most prime piece of real estate. The hotel hovers at the foot of Main Street, thus placing its privileged guests at arm' s length from the city' s hottest restaurants, bars and shops. It' s also a quick shuttle ride away from Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain Resort and The Canyons Resort. For ultimate ease, a lift in the middle of town, steps from the hotel, takes guests to the mountaintop in a few minutes' time. Though unconfirmed, our best guess is that Brad Pitt, who we hear was among the hotel' s earliest guests, hid out in its www.luxuryta.com May 2008 | LUXURY TRAVEL ADVISOR 9 http://www.goldenerhirschinn.com http://www.goldenerhirschinn.com http://www.theskylodge.com http://www.steineriksenlodge.com http://www.luxuryta.com
