Luxury Travel Advisor - May 2008 - (Page 12) THE GOLDENER HIRSCH INN is positioned at the foot of Deer Valley' s slopes. restaurant.com), right on Main Street, where we feasted on goat cheese chile rellenos and gigantic seared sea scallops served with whipped butternut squash (suggest clients sip on a pomegranate margarita); The Mariposa (www. deervalley.com/dining_shopping/ mariposa.html), an exquisite, intimate venue where we savored each and every course of the chef' s tasting menu, particularly the chocolate soufflé, which our delightful server, Alex, carefully pierced, filling the decadent dessert with a stream of Bailey' s Irish Cream (an equally outstanding vegetarian version of the menu is available; whichever option they choose, advise clients to go for the wine pairings); and Chenez (www.chenez.com), a living roomlike French restaurant, where we conquered the cold with a bowl of lobster bisque and indulged in a few flutes of champagne. Skiing and snowboarding tips: All accommodations in Park City are within easy reach of Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain Resort (www.parkcitymountain.com) and The Canyons Resort (www.thecan yons.com), so we suggest your clients try all three for the greatest variety. We perceived Deer Valley to be the most upscale option, Park City Mountain Resort appropriate for a young crowd and The Canyons somewhere in between. Note that snowboarding is not permitted at Deer Valley. At Park City Mountain Resort, advise clients to shed their skis and head for the Alpine Coaster, a pared-down thrill ride that twists and turns through the trees and over the slopes. At The Canyons, suggest clients break for lunch at Lookout Cabin, atop Lookout Peak (it might be a good idea to linger after lunch, as the only way down is on skis, a tricky feat with a full belly). Park City is rife with outfits that do everything from the fitting, tuning, delivering and storing of sports gear, a service we say is absolutely essential for a hassle-free ski getaway. We were spoiled by the services of the Ski Butlers (www.skibutlers.com), who showed up at our door bright and early with boots, poles and skis perfectly sizedÐev en labeled with our names. For an extra rush of adrenalin, make sure to send clients to Utah' s Olympic Park (www. olyparks.com). Here, visitors can peruse the Olympic Museum and wander the grounds where athletes competed in 1992, but the highlight of our visit was flying down the mountain on the Xtreme ZiplineÐi t' s not for the faint of heart. We' ll be sure to plan our next visit with plenty of time to ride a bobsled with a professional driver along the Olympic bobsled/skeleton course, which closed for the season days before we arrived. Tip: Get your clients' Park City stay off on the best possible foot. Once they' re on the ground in UtahÐ Salt Lake City International is the closest commercial airport, and private jets can land at Heber City Municipal Airport, 22 miles awayÐ be sure they reach their final destination via a private transfer with All Resort Express (www.allresort. com). A staffer greeted us at our baggage carousel and loaded our ski-gear-laden luggage into the back of a pristine Chevy Suburban. We felt like Scarlett or Sienna arriving at Sundance, buckled into the backseat of the imposing SUV, complete with blacked-out windows and a suitsporting, radio-toting driver. GOLDENER HIRSCH guest rooms were inspired by the Austrian property' s distinct style. 12 LUXURY TRAVEL ADVISOR | May 2008 http://www.olyparks.com http://www.olyparks.com http://www.chimayorestaurant.com http://www.thecanyons.com http://www.allresort.com http://www.allresort.com http://www.deervalley.com/dining_shopping/mariposa.html http://www.deervalley.com/dining_shopping/mariposa.html http://www.deervalley.com/dining_shopping/mariposa.html http://www.skibutlers.com http://www.chenez.com http://www.parkcitymountain.com http://www.thecanyons.com
