The Ranch, located on a wildlife sanctuary, is a mix of privately owned condominiums, homes and hotel guest rooms set in small buildings, so furnishings differ. Request the Choate units for guests who want a homey feel and dramatic views. These tri-level, three-bedroom, four-bathroom homes are set at the edge of the butte, which drops down to a valley, so the Grand Teton on the far side dominates the view. The main floor has a spacious living room with a wood-burning fireplace and cathedral ceiling, as well as a kitchen and separate dining room. The loft overhead has a bedroom and bath, while the master bedroom with a fireplace and a second bedroom are on the lower level. The 5,000-square-foot, fourbedroom, four-bath Mountain Villas are another good choice for families. If guests want just a hotel room, ask for numbers 2207, 2107, 2208 or 2108. They are located on the right side of the buildings, perched on the side of the butte and thus offer views of the Tetons. All rooms and villas can be booked over the GDS. If your clients stay at Spring Creek, recommend renting a car. There is shuttle service into Jackson year-round, and to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, 20 minutes away, in the winter, but a guest’s flexibility is limited. Spring Creek has one restaurant, the Granary, which serves breakfast, lunch and creative, gourmet dinners. (Recommend the trout dip as an appetizer.) Amangani, the luxe Aman property located next door to the Granary, has an intimate restaurant. Suggest booking a wilderness safari led by Kurt Johnson, the resident naturalist whose ability to find bison, elk, bald eagles and other animals and birds is outstanding. Geo-caching on the ranch’s private course is popular with families. The concierges can book horseback riding on the ranch, float or whitewater trips, chuck-wagon dinners and trips to Yellowstone. Both the Home Ranch (www. homeranch.com) and Vista Verde Ranch (www.vistaverde. com) in Colorado offer horseback riding, hiking, fishing, climbing and culinary experiences in the summertime. In the winter, both ranches have extensive trail systems on-site for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, and access to backcountry trails on national forest lands. The powdery slopes of Steamboat Resort are nearby. Seven-day stays, which include lodging meals and riding, are required in the summer. Shorter stays can be booked in the winter, which can include winter riding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on the ranch. Year-round, the ranch offers an upscale dining and lodging experience. Vista Verde Ranch, set in the Elk Valley high in Colorado’s Rockies, changed ownership about two years ago, triggering upgrades of cabins and other buildings. Request Wapiti or Hinman cabins, or the Gilpin, Pearl and Mica rooms in the Lodge, which have log bed frames made from trees on the ranch. The Kids’ and Teen programs now have a home base in the new Kids’ Hut.
