Luxury Travel Advisor took a close look at what’s happening on St. Lucia (www.stlucia. org) to see how that island’s gourmet offerings are evolving. We didn’t have to delve too far to unearth word of the annual St. Lucia Food & Rum Festival (www.foodandrumfestival.com), which attracts some of the best chefs, rum connoisseurs, food critics and gourmands from around the world. The 2008 St. Lucia Food & Rum Festival will take place from October 30-November 2. This event—which is held in Rodney Bay, a town along St. Lucia’s coastline that is absolutely filled with restaurants and bars along the coastline—is not merely about eating and drinking. The goal is to educate participants on the diversity of Caribbean food and the excellence of Caribbean rum. As a result, visitors will be treated to four nights of gourmet dinners crafted by world-famous guest chefs, who will also be on hand to give demonstrations under a designated tent. As you may have already suspected, Luxury Travel Advisor loves to learn about new things, and so we’re especially psyched about visiting the Rum Pavilion, where we hear several rum companies will also have guest mixologists at their booths concocting some prize-winning cocktails. All Things Mango The Food & Rum Festival isn’t the only gourmet happening on St. Lucia this year. Jade Mountain (www.jademountainstlucia.com), the luxury resort, will present its Mango Madness Festival from July 18-20. The event, also known as “1,001 things you could do to a mango before you die,” is the brainchild of Jade Mountain’s consulting chef and festival host, Allen Susser, and his team. (Note: Susser is also the author of The Great Mango Book.) What can gourmands look forward to? All things mango, of course, including a mango chutney workshop, a mango cocktail party, a mango tasting and demonstration and a Mango Madness cooking class. The peak of the event, however, will be the “Night of 1,000 Mangos” dinner at the Jade Mountain Club, which will be followed up by a Mango Champagne Brunch.
