Luxury Travel Advisor - August 2007 - (Page 19) ASTOR SUITES (left) are L-shaped and set in the corners of the hotel. THE LOBBY BAR (right) is an exciting venue from which to watch San Francisco’s social scene. GUEST ROOMS (below) average 450 square feet and have 42-inch plasma televisions. aren’t available for your traveling clan, 23 other connecting rooms and suites are on hand. (Note: The hotel is also pet friendly.) Regardless of the room pick, the famous St. Regis butler service is available throughout (as are double sinks in all bathrooms). Book well in advance for the busy months of September and October; luxury travel advisors may do so directly via Sandy Dutra (sandy.dutra@stregis.com; 415-284-4001), account director of luxury travel sales; they may also contact General Manager Toni Knorr (toni.knorr@stregis.com; 415-284-5050) for their ultraspecial VIPs. Deborah Larsson (deborah. larsson@remede.com; 415-2844061) heads up the hotel’s nine- room spa (two adjoin for couple’s treatments). She can arrange for a Remede Customized massage by her top therapist, Simon Yalniz, or for a customized facial. We found the hotel’s concierge team—contact David Malespin (conciergesf@stregis.com; 415-2844032)—to be extremely helpful. We had the simple request of asking for directions to Los Altos, and received extensive and concerned advice on which routes to take. The team can also easily arrange for a private shopper for one of the city’s department stores, such as Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Macy’s and the soon-to-open Barneys. Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Bulgari are also nearby. Another top dining venue is at Ame, which is in the St. Regis itself and is known for its sashimi. We hear the most coveted spot in the restaurant is its signature “red table,” which seats eight. Those who want to organize celebrations for groups, or even a wedding, should contact Director of Catering Barry Peterson (barry.peterson @stregis.com; 415-284-4006), who can arrange events at the hotel’s spacious Gallery Ballroom or on the Yerba Buena Terrace, which can be easily tented, or the smaller Overlook Terrace, which is ideal for a small ceremony. The true magic moment of our stay occurred when we asked the doorman to hail a cab so we could dine across town; instead, he summoned the house Bentley, whose driver effortlessly transported us up the city’s ultra-steep hills with the 550-or-so-horsepower vehicle. We later learned that these super-posh wheels are available nightly on a first-come, first-served basis. Overall, we found the St. Regis Hotel, San Francisco to have an extraordinarily high level of service that was delivered seamlessly and cordially. Its location is also a plus: At Third Street at Mission, it’s literally steps away from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (www.sfmoma.org), which has a significant permanent collection and a constant flow of important traveling exhibits. — Ruthanne Terrero www.luxuryta.com August 2007 | LUXURY TRAVEL ADVISOR 19 http://www.sfmoma.org http://www.luxuryta.com
