Luxury Travel Advisor - September 2007 - (Page 34) HOTELS LOS ANGELES We recently checked into the Sofitel Los Angeles (www.sofi tel.com) to get a glimpse of the $40 million renovation that transformed its former French Provencial décor into one that melds contemporary European with a taste of Southern California. We felt it was L.A. through and through from the moment we arrived; we’d been tooling around town all day at appointments that took us from Encino to West Hollywood and we were relieved to pull up to the attentive valet, hop out of our rental car and step into the cool, softly lit lobby and check into our fab guest room overlooking the Hollywood Hills. What we loved was that our room, while not spilling over with space, had not one but two sets of French doors with small balconies that let us soak in the Southern California sun each morning before our meetings. Another subtle magic moment? Thanks to its attention to all things French, Sofitel serves up the best chocolate croissants we’ve tasted west of the Mississippi. While standard rooms are cozy and functional for the standard traveler (we also thought the large bathrooms with rain showers were just swell), Luxury Travel Advisor just about fell in love with one of the hotel’s top suites, number 1045, which also happens to be the fave of General Manager Brent Martin, who gave us our tour. Note: While Martin is extremely hands-on with VIP clientele, insiders suggest contacting Daniel Entenberg (daniel.entenberg@accor.com; 310-358-3938; cell: 814-8834937), who oversees the Guest Service Experience and can take care of the particulars for your celeb client. By the way, we hear that George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Jessica Alba, Nick Lachey and Eva Longoria, to name a few, have visited the Sofitel LA. We’re almost positive they made their way up to the aforementioned Suite 1045, whose highlight for us was the spacious terrace, with fireplace, where one can gaze at the Hollywood Hills from the comfort of their plush settee. Note: If this suite is booked, request number 1001, which provides a similar experience. Both suites must be booked directly with the hotel. SOFITEL THE SOFITEL draws the city’s stylish young set with chic gathering spaces. 34 LUXURY TRAVEL ADVISOR | September 2007 http://www.sofitel.com http://www.sofitel.com
