LUXE RETREATS U.S. MOUNTAIN through which the early-morning sun shines for a breathtaking wakeup call. In addition to the Club Condos, there are 100 hotel guest rooms, all of which have amenities such as customdesigned furnishings and feather duvets. Tip: Request a room on one of the top three floors for the best views. All accommodations have 24-hour room service and ski valets, who can coordinate advanced shipping for skis and snowboards, secure convenient transportation to the ski lifts and make sure that your clients’ boots are warm and dry. A ski rental shop on property offers BY DAN BUTCHER This fall, the Vail Plaza Hotel & Club (www.vailplazaclub .com), whose classic bell towers, gables, handcrafted chandeliers, beamed ceilings and stonework evoke Italian Alpine architecture, becomes the first hotel to open in the heart of Vail Village in more than 40 years. The property’s premium accommodations—and a fail-safe choice for families and groups—are 38 luxurious condos. What makes them so great? Condos consist of one to four bedrooms, a large living room with gas fireplace, a kitchen equipped with steel appliances and balconies with stunning views of Vail Mountain. (The Condos are part of the fractional ownership Club, which means that during the offseasons and during the weeks the units aren’t sold, they are placed into a rental pool.) Tip: Condos can also be locked off and made into 100 separate rooms. Our favorite accommodations, however, are the Penthouses; located on the upper floors of the property, these spacious hideaways have living and master bedrooms with vaulted ceilings and gas fireplaces. We especially loved the exquisite hardwood floors and the large windows, all necessary equipment and ski storage; suggest that clients who opt for Condo accommodations also request pre-arrival shopping. After a day spent out on the slopes, guests won’t want to miss the property’s Sorrento Spa, which offers Swedish, deep-tissue and hot-stone massages, as well as a menu of skin treatments. “His-and-hers” steam rooms and saunas and an outdoor heated pool are our picks for a relaxing afternoon. Insider tip: The outdoor pool area, which has eight-person hot tubs and beverage service, is a prime setting for après ski.
