Luxury Travel Advisor - September 2007 - (Page 44) VAIL PLAZA HOTEL’s Condos (Two Bedroom living room, right; Three Bedroom master, below) offer privacy and luxurious comfort. available to and from the private on-site landing area via Park City Helitours (www.parkcityheli tours.com). Million Air Salt Lake City (www.millionairslc. com), also 35 minutes from the hotel, provides private jet services. Hotel Park City’s central location is ideal for clients who want to sample the area’s many offerings: It’s located on the 18-hole championship Park City Golf Course, which converts into a 20-kilometer Nordic cross-country-skiing course in winter, and is less than a mile from Park City Mountain Resort (www.parkcity mountain.com), which has a convenient lift from the center of Old Town. Hotel Park City is also less than 10 minutes from Deer Valley Resort (www.deer valley.com), which features the region’s best on-mountain dining, including the Royal Street Café; try its to-die-for blueberry mojito. (Note: Deer Valley does not allow snowboarding.) Seven minutes from Hotel Park City is The Canyons Resort (www.thecanyons.com), the largest ski and snowboard resort in Utah. These resorts hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. All guests of Hotel Park City have access to ski valet services through the property’s bell services department. Hotel Park City’s most requested premium accommodations are the new 650-squarefoot Cottage Deluxe Executive Suites, which opened last December. What makes them so appealing? We think it’s the private six-person Jacuzzi and two fireplaces. For families and groups, choose the 750-squarefoot Cottage Luxury Suites, which come with a full kitchen and connect to a Cottage Deluxe Executive Suite. Combined, the suites have two master bedrooms and two twin sofa beds, providing ample room for eight. But if it’s space and exclusivity your slope-bound clients desire, we say the 1,800-square-foot Penthouse Suite, which has two master bedrooms, a full kitchen and spacious living room, can’t be beat. For relaxation, we loved The Spa at Hotel Park City, especially the spa suite for couples’ massages and the wet room with a hydrotherapy tub. The Deep Tissue Sports Massage made us melt, loosening us up in all the right places. Tip: If your clients opt for skincare treatments, request Brittany Harris, the spa’s standout esthetician. Spa Director Tracy Harper (tharper@hotel parkcity.com; 435-940-5080) oversees the facility and can tend to VIP arrangements. Book treatments for your clients at the time room reservations are made. Current on-site dining options include the Sleigh Restaurant and the private Wasatch Room, as the main dining room will be under renovation in preparation for a Ruth’s Chris Steak House, scheduled to open early this winter. The chief concierge is Daine Smith (dsmith@hotelparkcity. com; 435-940-5098), whose “famous feats” include scheduling an entire three-day surprise itinerary for a couple, arranging in-room dining with a personal chef and private sleigh rides for marriage proposals, securing a $20,000 horse for a guest’s birthday present, setting up a combined hot-air-balloon/horse- back-riding itinerary and personally flying to Las Vegas, renting a Ferrari and driving it back to Park City for a guest. Smith can also arrange helicopter skiing through Park City Powder Cats & Heli-Ski (www. pccats.com), which operates minutes away from Park City at the privately owned Thousand Peaks Ranch. The company’s heli-skiing trips include six runs with up to 13,000 vertical feet of terrain, and they average eight to 10 runs each day on their Snowcat skiing trips, depending on snow conditions and group ability. Extra runs are available with the helicopter for a nominal price per run. All runs are in beautiful open bowls, gladed trees and steep chutes. Book six to eight months in advance for the following periods: December 20-January 6, January 18-28 (Sundance Film Festival) and Presidents’ Week in mid-February. The Whiteface Lodge Resort and Spa (www.thewhiteface lodge.com), also a member of The Leading of the Hotels of the World, is located in upstate New York near Whiteface Mountain (www.whiteface.com), which is celebrating its 50th anniversary and whose 3,460-foot vertical drop is the greatest this side of the Rockies.
