Luxury Travel Advisor - September 2007 - (Page 56) RAIL TRAVEL Aboard the GrandLuxe Express This luxury locomotive turns back the hands of time. BY JONATHAN SISKIN Clients with a sense of nostalgia can relive the “Golden Age” of rail travel aboard the GrandLuxe Express (www.grandluxerail.com). Formerly the American Orient Express, the vintage GrandLuxe is reminiscent of the deluxe streamliners of yesteryear, renowned for superb service, luxury accommodations and gourmet cuisine. Each GrandLuxe sleeping car has its own butler, and guests can partake of first-class amenities in luxurious lounges and dining cars built during the 1940s and ‘50s. A $15 million renovation has restored elegant appointments, such as polished brass in the sleeping cars, inlaid mahogany paneling in the dining cars and ebony, brass and leather in the lounges. Book VIPs into one of the spacious Gold Suites, which often sell out three to six months prior to departure. Each of the four suites is furnished with couches that convert into side-by-side twin beds across from picture windows. They’re the only accommodations featuring two vanities with sink and mirror plus separate shower and toilet compartments. Book suites via Reservations Supervisor Jane Hoagland (jane.hoagland@grandluxerail. com; 303-962-5381), who can also provide information about GrandLuxe’s 13 itineraries ranging from two to 10 days. 56 LUXURY TRAVEL ADVISOR | September 2007 THE GRAND SUITE, with two beds and mahogany trim, is the train’s most popular cabin (above). http://www.grandluxerail.com
