Luxury Travel Advisor - November 2007 - (Page 34) DEER PARK’s tiered swimming pool cuts a path through the hotel’s lush surroundings. All suites have private terraces and are identical in layout and design. For uninterrupted views of the beach, book one of 14 Ocean Suites (101-114); the 16 Pool Suites have views of the pool, coconut grove and ocean. The large bedroom and living rooms have king-size beds and contemporary coconut-palm wood furnishings. Sliding lattice panels separate them from the bathrooms, which are refreshingly large and airy and have freestanding tubs, twin vanities and showers. With floor-to-ceiling windows opening to the private, walled plunge pool on one side and the ocean on the other, cooling sea breezes are an alternative to air-conditioning. Five sets of Pool Suites have outdoor connecting doors and are perfect for families or couples traveling together. Our favorite spot was the oceanfront Beach Club, a pavilion with a wooden deck for relaxing and informal lunches. Contact General Manager Jonathan Blitz (jblitz@ amanresorts.com; 94-472-241094/96) to reserve it for private dinners or functions and also for VIP arrangements. Blitz says personalized tours to the local market are a unique shopping experience. The Spa Suite offers tradi- tional therapies and massages. Spa manager Natalie Rogers (nrogers@ amanresorts.com; 94-912-233388) also organizes treatments in guests’ suites and in the coconut grove. Tours to historic rock temples and three national parks can also be arranged. Deer Park Hotel (www. coloursofangsana.com/deer park/index.htm) is in the heart of the cultural triangle of the three UNESCO-listed ancient capitals, and is close to national parks, where your clients can find elephants, leopards, bears and crocodiles. For couples, book the secluded Angsana Cottages (101-106) overlooking the Giritale Reservoir. They have private wooden decks with gazebos, living areas, dressing rooms and king-size beds. The other 71 rooms surround the restaurant and pool. Families will like the two-level Deluxe Duplexes and the 20-odd connecting rooms. Downstairs bathrooms all have open-air shower areas. The Deluxe Pool Villa, with a private plunge pool, can sleep nine. The Angsana Spa has nine double treatment rooms. Spa Manager Amonya Ongpaibool (amonya.ongpaibool@angsana. com) advises on treatments. We loved the 90-minute Ibu’s Secret massage with soothing turmeric and eucalyptus extracts. Contact Chandana Pathmakumara (chandana.pkumara@angsa na.com; 94-27-247-933), interim hotel manager, for bookings and special arrangements, and Front Office Manager Kumarathunge (frontoffice-deerpark@angsana. com; 94-27-246-272) for tours and excursions. Tip: Clients who want a unique nature experience can see hundreds of elephants as they drink and splash in the water at sundown at the end of the dry season (July and August). 34 LUXURY TRAVEL ADVISOR | November 2007 http://www.coloursofangsana.com/deerpark/index.htm http://www.coloursofangsana.com/deerpark/index.htm http://www.coloursofangsana.com/deerpark/index.htm
