Luxury Travel Advisor - December 2007 - (Page 63) Acqualina In an interesting turn of events, Acqualina (www.lhw.com/ho telacqualina), the luxury resort on Sunny Isles Beach in South Florida, has decided to drop its affiliation with Rosewood Hotels and Resorts. This is not the first South Florida resort that has decided to de-flag. Regent Hotels & Resorts recently turned over operations of the Regent South Beach to Spain’s Vincci Hotels. The hotel has been renamed Vincci South Beach. The moves leave one wonder- to Go It Alone ing if South Beach is becoming another St. Barth’s—a destination whose popularity draws the jetset crowd without the need of a commonly known brand. Of note is the fact that Acqualina, which opened in May 2006 and is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, was built from the ground up as a Rosewood resort. Deborah Yager-Fleming, vice president of sales and marketing for the resort (who will continue on), says, however, that Acqualina has ACQUALINA HOUSES 96 guest rooms with simple, chic décor. established a clear brand for itself as an ultra-luxury boutique hotel and that management intends to leverage its membership in The Leading Hotels of the World. Veteran hotelier, Florent Gateau also will continue in his role as vice president and managing director of the Acqualina Resort. Acqualina Management, LLC, the hotel management company that has employed the on-site management team supervised by Rosewood since last year's opening, is to assume complete supervision of the management team. Word has it that management may also try to leverage the Acqualina brand with other hotels. T here’s just something about staying at The Helmsley Park Lane Hotel.
