Luxury Travel Advisor - December 2007 - (Page 66) Dive on the House THE PULSE The Jalousie Plantation nestles into a World Heritage Site with a protected National Marine Reserve of staggering diversity right off the beach. Coral pinnacles rise up 30 feet from the seabed. Myriad fish flash the colours of a dozen rainbows. A coral wall plunges down 300 feet. This is one of the world’s great dive sites. It’s completely complimentary with expert guides, instruction, and first-class equipment. The Jalousie Plantation Dive team are NOW proud to be part of the Beautiful Oceans Family and are all certified as Beautiful Oceans Science Instructors. Villa Aquamare Villa Aquamare (www.villaaquamare.com) has just opened along a half-mile of beachfront on the western coast of Virgin Gorda at Mahoe Bay. What’s good? Each of the three 8,000square-foot villas have unobstructed views of the inlets in Drake Channel which translate to drop-dead gorgeous sunsets. Large enough to cater to up to 12 guests each, all villas feature large living areas that flow naturally to private balconies and decks, professionalgrade kitchens and waterfront infinity pools. They also boast five generously sized bedrooms (three masters, one double and one studio) and large outdoor showers overlooking the channel. All suites are outfitted with luxe amenities such as Frette linens, Bulgari toiletries, 42-inch LCD TVs and Wi-Fi. The secluded Beach Park at the shoreline adjacent to the villas is ideal for weddings and group gatherings and is home to a large thatched palapa for alfresco massages (Note: An expanded line of treatments will be introduced in early 2008). Luxury moment: The Beach Park’s guests are looked after by a beck-and-call staff bearing chilled towels, ice-cold bottles of water and other “cool” creature comforts. Another hip aspect of Beach Park is the signature Dream Bed, which is suspended over the shallow water for afternoon snoozes, sunset cocktails or lazy tête-a-têtes. For VIPs, contact Managing Director Guillermo Paz (gpaz@villaaquamare. com). A 62-foot Azimut power yacht and a 36foot Tiara cruising yacht are available for rent, allowing clients to explore Virgin Gorda and the neighboring islands. The resort also provides a variety of water sports and equipment. We hear the concierge staff can arrange for private chefs, helicopter jaunts and nearly anything else your A-list client might desire. Contact Head Concierge Gino Russo (gino@ villaaquamare.com). Still to come: A wine cellar with a lavish list of highly sought-after vintages will open in March, while a cigar room with top brands not imported to the U.S. will open in early 2009. Giorgio’s Table, one of the best restaurants on Virgin Gorda, will provide “Room with a View Service” dining options en villa, offering a menu of Italian and fresh-caught seafood goodies.
