Luxury Travel Advisor - December 2008 - (Page 12) and other offbeat touches like lanterns and modish armoires. Don’t miss the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, a delectable treat in every room refrigerator. The top rooms here are the 12 villas. No. 506 is a two-bedroom villa offering a full kitchen and lovely French doors leading to a private patio with banquette seating—ideal for entertaining guests. Other great options for your clients are the six one-bedroom Wetherly Suites, which offer large parlors, step-out sun patios and expansive bathrooms. Note: The best mountain views can be had in the Premium Studios, particularly Nos. 105 and 114, and in villas No. 504 and No. 506. Premium Studios Nos. 107, 108,109 and 110 also have vaulted ceilings and fireplaces. Make sure to also spend some time in the Estrella Spa where treatments can be taken either indoors or out. Guests have raved about the Lava Shell Massage, the Bamboo Ritual (think layering of products and delicate aromas) and the Reverse Facial. The hotel recommends booking spa appointments at least one week before a stay. The Coachella Valley comprises eight different cities: Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage. In Indian Wells, The Villas at Hyatt Grand Champions Resort and Spa (www.hyattgrandchampions. com) is a strong luxury component to the resort hotel and is the Hyatt chain’s only villa product. The 43 One- and Two-bedroom Villas, including three Presidential Villas, are situated alongside the resort’s gardens and fairways, with some flanking the property’s expansive lagoon. With up to 1,900 square feet of space, villas are the perfect option for families and for entertaining. The Presidential Villa that we checked out, No. 721, features a large patio area, complete with a grill (guests can arrange for a chef to whip up a scrumptious dinner from the Villa-exclusive BBQ menu) and private whirlpool spa that is the perfect spot to spend the evening with a loved one. We swooned at the site of the huge bedroom with en-suite bathroom, whose deep soaking tub for two is situated such that it can be seen—or unseen—through wood plantation shutters. Tip: Ask your butler to prepare a bath from a selection off the bath service menu. But- lers are a large component of the Hyatt Villa experience, and no request goes unattended. Our insider shared one anecdote regarding a particular guest who was averse to newspaper ink smudges on his fingers. Solution: His butler diligently ironed the morning paper and served it with a side of coffee.
