Luxury Travel Advisor - December 2008 - (Page 42) COVER STORY program is that within a couple of hundred miles, there has been a growth in the number of great places you can drive to just to get recharged,” DeClemente says. Yellin makes a habit of checking out such places. She recently discovered Barley Sheaf Farm and Spa (www.barleysheaf.com) in Bucks County, PA, when she and her husband, both avid art enthusiasts, were visiting the James A. Michener Museum (www. michenermuseum.org). DeClemente, meanwhile, just became a fan of Winvian (www.winvian.com), 19theme cottages in Litchfield Hills, CT, which is “completely over the top, it’s amazing,” he says. “It’s good to keep that type of product out there because if somebody wants to go for three days and two nights, you can still make some good money. A lot of people just turn that business away.” Other recommendations from the dynamic duo are The Lodge at Turning Stone (www.turningstone.com) in Verona, NY; the Pitcher Inn (http://pitcherinn.com) in Warren, VT; the Equinox Resort and Spa (www. equinoxresort.com) in Manchester, VT, and The Mayflower Inn & Spa (www.mayflower inn.com) in Washington, CT. Yellin feels that the affiliation with Tzell, along with DeClemente’s strength in the business side of running an agency, will allow her to again channel her focus on selling leisure travel to her high-end clientele, which reaches as far as California and Florida. “It’s always exciting. Honestly, I never get up in the morning and say, ‘Oh I have to go to the office,’” says Yellin, who has moved from Great Neck to Manhattan’s upscale 57th Street and now drives to work every day. Despite her strategy of selling local resorts, Yellin also loves to travel farther afield to check out new potential destinations for her GREG DECLEMENTE’S PERFECT TRIP My perfect trip starts with a flight on Lufthansa to Munich. Upon arrival we’re met at the airport and escorted to the luxurious Bayerischer Hof Hotel located in the heart of this wonderful 800-yearold city. Our mission is to pick up a new BMW M6 convertible which we’ve purchased in the states for European delivery. After getting settled in our hotel, we head out to the Welt, BMW’s architecturally stunning delivery center in the heart of Munich to take possession of our new vehicle. We’ll spend the next 10 days exploring cities and countries behind the wheel of our new car. Guided by the navigation system and our sense of adventure, we’ll make stops in Switzerland, Austria and Northern Italy. We’ll stay a few nights in five-star properties in Lucerne, Salzburg, Vienna, Lake Como and Milan, stopping on the way to explore sites and to enjoy the local cuisine. At the completion of our journey we’ll drop off the car at an official BMW site and board our flight home from Europe. In a few weeks our new BMW will arrive at our doorstep as a reminder of the incredible journey we experienced and of the journey to come. Zoom Zoom!
