Butlers assist guests prior to arrival for airport transfers and any special requirements and, following checkin, act as personal concierges. Other luxe accommodations include the one-bedroom Penthouse Suites, Nos. 1 and 2, and Lagoon Suites, Nos. 1 to 18, which feature open terraces and private plunge pools. Holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, should be booked at least six months in advance. Adding to the property’s quixotic allure is The Spa at The Tides Zihuatanejo, which unveiled a renovation in December 2007. All treatments are performed using natural ingredients and custom-made Osea products, an organic marine-based line that was developed exclusively for all Tides resorts. A good portion of treatments on the menu incorporate elements of the ocean and its bounty. The Tides Signature Lava Shell Therapy is a 60-minute hot-stone therapy, which uses smooth shells that are heated from the inside by combining natural ingredients of algae, minerals, saltwater and sea kelp. Ask for Paola Pineda, the spa’s most popular masseuse. As enticing as the spa itself is, many guests enjoy the exclusivity of in-room treatments, taking advantage of the expansive balconies and terraces with large plunge pools that can be found in the Presidential, Penthouse, Lagoon and Beach Suites. There, any massage on the menu can be selected and performed, while manicure and pedicure services are available in all room categories. A third option, beachside massages, is offered for those who can’t tear themselves away from the soothing sound of the surf. Working up an appetite won’t be tough after a day’s worth of soothing spa treatments—and here, guests are in for a treat. Authentic dining options abound at The Tides Zihuatanejo’s two gourmet restaurants, both of which provide romantic alfresco ambiance. La Villa Restaurant serves PacificMexican cuisine made with local ingredients and fresh seafood, such as a Costeña Lobster dish, while La Marea serves Mediterranean and Mexican fare. The property also hosts cooking classes led by Executive Chef Paco Isordia, and a private six-course wine dinner served in La Cava, the air-conditioned 1,000bottle wine cellar, can be arranged for up to six guests. Advance table reservations are recommended and can be obtained through the concierge. After dinner, guests can take a romantic walk on the resort’s meticulously groomed 1,000-foot-long beachfront.
