Luxury Travel Advisor - December 2008 - (Page 60) JETSET REPORT Pampering Pets at Harrods We have to admit we were just about stopped in our tracks on a recent stroll through Harrods (www.harrods.com) in London, where we were checking out the rather extensive collection of accessories and clothing for doggies. First there was the bright yellow raincoat (perhaps for a jaunt through India during monsoon season), and then there was the adorable “James Bones” t-shirt with the inscription, “Shaken, not stirred,” which we think would be apropos for club-hopping in any world-class city. There’s also a diamondlike collar along with a wide variety of toys. It wasn’t the cute pet accoutrements that had us grinning, it was the double-doggy dressing rooms, where your VIP’s pooch can sample his selections with a full-length mirror and even a little bed in case he needs a break from shopping. We also loved the full-length curtain that could be drawn if the pampered pet requires a bit of privacy. POSH L’ESPACE PREMIÈRE SERVICE IN-FLIGHT AND ON THE GROUND Even if you don’t speak French, just hearing “l’Espace Première” brings to mind exclusivity. Well, there is something behind the name: This is the premium class on Air France (www.airfrance. com) flights, where the perks for those privileged passengers start even before they set foot on the plane. At Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, a personal attendant joins your VIPs as soon as they arrive and expedites all of the steps (think a passport check performed from the comfort of the l’Espace Première lounge—a sanctuary where jetsetters are immersed in all things French). A private telephone number is also given to l’Espace Première passengers, just in case they are delayed. Once the formalities are out of the way, the personal attendant arranges the arrival, check-in and transportation, via a Mercedes, to the plane in style. Once there, your cherished client is introduced to the cabin crew. During the flight, l’Espace Première guests have their own private space onboard, complete with a wine list selected by Olivier Poussier—named world’s best sommelier in 2000—and a menu created by Guy Martin, three-star chef at the Grand Véfour restaurant in Paris. MANHATTAN MEET-UPS If your business-minded clients are heading to NYC, point them in the direction of Meet at the Apartment (www.welcometomeet. com), which just opened in SoHo. The two-story, 2,500-square-foot loft can hold all sorts of gatherings (think product launches, fashion events, photo shoots and art exhibits). In the kitchen, your VIPs can meet at a large round table, while helping themselves to snacks in the stocked pantry; the library is filled with more than 100 interesting books, which cover everything from art to design, photography and other disciplines; the parlor features lounge furniture, phone chargers, an iMac station and a 65-inch, HD presentation screen. We say the neatest thing about this pad is the Green Room. Filled with fun décor and leather couches, it serves as the perfect place to hold a private meeting or to just chill out. A SEXY GUIDE TO THE CITY OF LIGHTS Your posh clients planning a weekend getaway to Paris with their dearest gal pals or a romantic rendezvous should use “Naughty Paris, A Lady’s Guide to the Sexy City” (www.naughty parisguide.com) by Heather Stimmler-Hall as their number-one resource to discovering the City of Lights. Inside, your jetsetting clients will find all they need to know about intimate hotels, low-lit restaurants and couples-only nightclubs; dance clubs and stylish cocktail bars for mingling with the locals; erotic museums, art galleries, book shops; and much more. Several bookstores carry the handy guide, but for a signed copy from the author, check out the website. 60 LUXURY TRAVEL ADVISOR | December 2008 http://www.harrods.com http://www.airfrance.com http://www.airfrance.com http://www.welcometomeet.com http://www.welcometomeet.com http://www.naughtyparisguide.com http://www.naughtyparisguide.com http://www.naughtyparisguide.com
