DESTINATIONS PACIFIC/ASIA BRIEFS BY MARK ROGERS & DAN BUTCHER REGINA TOURS HOSTS PHILIPPINES PILGRIMAGE Religious operator Regina Tours will hold a pilgrimage in the Philippines during Holy Week. Starting on March 15, the day before Palm Sunday, and culminating on Easter, March 23, the program highlights the Lenten Rites, a controversial annual event where devotees re-enact Christ’s ordeal of the Way of the Cross, and the three-hour “Vigil of the Resurrection,” a theatrical presentation marking Jesus’ resurrection. Participants will begin the journey with Palm Sunday Mass at the Chapel of the Last Supper in Cebu and visit a variety of religious sites. As the tour heads to Pampanga, stops will be made at popular destinations such as the Shrine of the Nuestra Señora de Manaoag. On the return trip to Manila, the tour stops at the Angono Petroglyphs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Easter Sunday Mass is celebrated at the Manila Cathedral. LANGHAM RESORT OPENS ON THAI ISLAND Langham Hotels International (www.langhamhotels.com) has opened the Langham Place Eco Resort + Spa on the island of Koh Lanta in the southern Thailand province of Krabi. The opening marks Langham’s first property under a management contract and its first resort. The Krabi resort has 185 rooms and villas spread from the beach up a hillside overlooking Klong Tob Bay. There are four swimming pools and the Chuan Spa, with treatments based on time-honored Chinese traditions.
