A quick look at ARIA’s restaurant lineup indicates that most visitors will be hard-pressed to sample them all in one visit. Masayoshi Takayama of Masa in New York City will open Bar Masa, serving his celebrated take on Japanese cuisine. Shaboo will be a second and exclusive dining space within Bar Masa. Shawn McClain, executive chef at three of Chicago’s top restaurants, will open Sage, his first restaurant outside of Chicago, at ARIA. He’ll spotlight farm-to-table produce, artisanal meats and sustainable seafood. Rounding out the picture, Michael Mina will head up American Fish (which will also serve a choice of well-sourced meats); Chef Julian Serrano will offer Spanish cuisine at his eponymous restaurant; Jean-Georges Vongerichten mans the Jean Georges Steakhouse; and Sirio Maccioni will reign at Sirio, where the menu will feature Italian favorites. The Spa The resort will also have an 80,000-squarefoot spa and salon featuring a complete menu of skin care, massage and hydrotherapy treatments, plus a living-room area and smoothie bar. The two-level facility will have 62 individual spa treatment rooms and three spa suites designed for couples and small groups such as bachelorette parties. There will also be a co-ed balcony overlooking the pool. The spa director is not yet officially on board. Agents will be able to book treatments for clients ahead of time, 60 days prior to opening and then 90 days before their arrival. ARIA’s 215,000-square-foot pool deck will be shielded by oversized palm, acacia, pine and bottle trees. It will have three large pools, a European pool, three hot tubs and 50 cabanas for up to 1,500 guests. Four ballrooms, three featuring fully functioning theatrical stages, will accommodate gatherings of all sizes from 10 to 5,000 attendees. In all, a total of 38 meeting rooms ranging from 800 to 2,000 square feet are planned. I CityCenter Gaming Resort will open later this year CITYCENTER PREVIEW When CityCenter (www.citycenter.com) opens in late 2009, it will comprise a slate of hotels, shops, theaters and condominium residences. This joint venture between MGM MIRAGE and Infinity World Development Corp., a subsidiary of Dubai World, is being billed as a “Vertical City” or “Urban Metropolis.” CityCenter will occupy 67 acres between the Bellagio and Monte Carlo resorts on the Vegas Strip. In addition to ARIA, there will be a number of luxury non-gaming hotels including Las Vegas’ first Mandarin Oriental and Vdara Hotels; Veer Towers, the development’s only strictly residential buildings; approximately 2,400 condominium residences; and Crystals, a 500,000-square-foot retail and entertainment district. Additionally, The Harmon, a 400-room luxury boutique hotel, is slated to open at CityCenter in late 2010. CityCenter also will feature a $40 million public Fine Art Program with works by well-known artists such as Maya Lin, Jenny Holzer, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen. CityCenter is pursuing the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
