Even better, there was a 58% increase in U.S. reservations made by travelers from outside the U.S. To support this, Travel Holdings, Tourico’s parent company, reported a growth in reservations of 31% in 2007 from 2006. Domestically, Americans are visiting Florida, Nevada, New York and California. Visitors from abroad are visiting New York, Miami, Las Vegas, Orlando and Los Angeles. Foreign visitors are coming mostly from the UK, Italy, Spain, Brazil and China. Emerging Tourism Markets The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has found that tourism in emerging and developing markets has grown at an average rate of 6%-8% over the past decade, twice the rate of industrialized countries. Tourism makes up about 70% of the income for many of the world’s poorest countries. The regions expected to experience the most significant increases by 2020 are China, India and Southeast Asia, followed by Eastern European, Latin American and African markets. Tourism from these markets can be counted on to grow as international policies and economies change. Chinese tourists, for example, took approximately 2 billion trips in 2007.
