SOUTHERN THAILAND PHUKET Often called the “Pearl of the South,” Phuket is Thailand's largest and most visited island. Phuket is connected to the mainland via the Sarasin Bridge. The island’s clear blue waters, coconut groves and rubber plantations make it a unique beach resort area. Phuket also has plenty of options for golfers, having four 18-hole golf courses. Phuket has numerous beaches ranging from gentle crescents to rocky headlands. The east coast on the Gulf of Thailand presents calmer seas and a laid-back atmosphere, while the Andaman Sea coast is more dramatic, with fanciful limestone rock formations and cliffs, often used as a memorable backdrop in movies. The mountains, rivers and forests in the national parks in the peninsula’s interior peninsula offer plenty of opportunities for soft adventure and ecotourism activities.
