This region will have a lot of appeal for those looking for the least touristy area of Thailand. Candle Festival in Ubon Ratchatan Bangkok is one of the most celebrated capitals in the world and a prime magnet for travelers. City-lovers need to schedule adequate time for Bangkok in order to explore its cultural treasures, great shopping, trendy restaurants and fast paced cosmopolitan attitude. But don’t neglect major sights throughout the region, including Ayutthaya, the former capital of Thailand and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Kanchanaburi, site of the historic Bridge on the River Kwai; and the upscale seaside resort area, Hua Hin, and the famous seaside resort of Pattaya. The Central region is largely delta country, dominated by the Chao Phraya River. The South Thailand’s southern region has a long coastline of sandy beaches and offshore islands. Here you’ll find some of the most famous seaside resort areas in the world, such as Phuket, Ko Samui, and Krabi, known for the Phi Phi islands. The region also has the popular beachside locales of Phang-nga, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Surat Thani and Chumphon Ranong, and Koh Lanta Yai. The islands of Ko Samui are a big hit with younger travelers, as they have a reputation for knowing how to throw a party. Southern Thailand is definitely the right choice for those with watersports at the top of their list.
