Travel Agent - October 15, 2007 - (Page SU8) 8|9 Ski University • Travel Agent There are, of course, many reasons to recommend a Utah ski or snowboard vacation, but the two biggest ones are quite Utah’s Powder Perks Snow and location are two of Utah’s principle allures simple. First, there’s the snow, which, thanks to a dry climate and the geographical quirk of the Great Salt Lake, is among the lightest, driest, most pleasurable in the world to ski. The marketing tag line is “the greatest snow on Earth,” and many who travel to Utah find that nature’s actual product does not disappoint. There’s also the accessibility, which is not to be overlooked amid all that dreaming about perfect powder. Unlike many ski destinations that are served by small mountain airports, most of Utah’s resorts are accessed from Salt Lake City’s major airport, which in many cases is just a quick drive to the slopes. That means that it’s perfectly realistic to expect that clients can take a morning flight to Utah from the East Coast, proceed immediately to the slopes and be skiing that very day. Beyond those two major draws, there’s also a lot of solid product out there for many different types of clients. Families and singles alike can enjoy the big, all-purpose Park City Mountain Resort, for example. Located right in the picture-perfect ski town of Park City (which now has a the cache of hosting the annual Sundance Film Festival), the mountain is a great choice for families who love wide-open, groomed slopes for maximum cruising comfort, although there’s plenty of tough terrain as well. There’s even a lift that goes right into the downtown area. While families might choose a condo near the slopes, singles and partygoers might prefer one of the many properties in the heart of the town, where they can take advantage of all the nightlife and cutting-edge dining. Upscale travelers might seek out the luxurious Hotel Park City. DEER VALLEY DELUXE Greater Park City also encompasses two other close-by, world-class ski areas. One, Deer Valley, is a favorite choice of luxury travelers, as its amenities, services and on-mountain dining win accolades year after year (note that snowboarding is not allowed at this mountain). It’s also well known for its grooming capabilities, and as such is a great choice for upscale travelers seeking the most pampered ski vacation they can find. Beginners and intermediates have ample terrain, and as Deer Valley limits the number of skiers on the mountain at any one time, it’s can be a good place for the whole family to ski together. For maximum comfort, many travelers choose Stein Eriksen Lodge, one of the most luxurious mountain properties to be found anywhere. Another Park City-area choice is The Canyons, whose greatest draw may be its huge Snowbird Sundance Resorts
