THE RESEARCH DESK A Woman of Distinction: Kelley Sloane j Joining Sheila Eletto, and five other outstanding leaders in the document industry, Kelley Sloane was honored with the 2008 Women of Distinction Award, a recognition program established by OutputLinks. For six years, 49 women have received this distinction, which honors the leading women in the high-volume transaction output industry, including professionals such as presidents and CEOs, senior management, educators, technical consultants, document managers and others. Kelley Sloane is the director of enterprise software marketing for Hewlett-Packard’s Imaging & Printing Web Services and Software group. Hewlett-Packard acquired Exstream Software in March 2008, where Ms. Sloane served as vice president of worldwide marketing since the company brought its Dialogue product to market in early 2000. At Exstream, Ms. Sloane was responsible for corporate, product, industry and international marketing, as well as customer relations and co-marketing partner programs. She was a two-time President’s Club award recipient and was instrumental in Exstream’s fast growth and recognition as the leading enterprise document automation software provider in the industry. “I was really thrilled to receive this recognition. It was an acknowledgement of the hard work and pay off for the last eight years with Exstream, but for me, it was also recognition for the 20-plus years of hard work prior to Exstream that gave me the tools and experience necessary to achieve such a reward. It’s even more meaningful that this award came from my peers in the industry,” said Ms. Sloane when asked what this distinction meant to her. Prior to joining Exstream, Ms. Sloane led global marketing and development of Baan Company’s distant learning education programs. From 1995 to 1998, she won numerous awards for her analyst relations success at INTERSOLV, a software company in Rockville, Maryland. Earlier, she launched eCommerce software products at GE Information Services in Rockville, Maryland and developed financial and electronic data interchange (EDI) systems at GE Lighting in Cleveland. Ms. Sloane graduated “with distinction” from the University of Kentucky with a BS in computer science. The 2008 Women of Distinction Class also includes Valentina Carnevali, marketing & communication manager at 4IT Group; Dr. Penny K. Bennett, associate professor of Graphic Communication Department at California Polytechnic State University; Coco Chen vice president of China Academy of Printing Technology; Kathy Hamburger, president and Chief Operating Officer at Regulus Group; Lieske van der Grinten, founding family member (1834-1910), awarded posthumously Océ; and Sheila Eletto, vice president of marketing communications at Pitney Bowes. Since 2002, the Women of Distinction Award has uniquely honored the prominent and influential women that dedicate their professional lives for the document industry. The benefits of continued recognition of such leaders has and will continue to inspire the women, and men, of our industry. “It’s a really nice way to acknowledge the leadership and achievements women have made for many years in this traditionally male-led industry and provides yet another venue to communicate the market impact of all the great things going on in different parts of the industry. It’s also a great career-building and networking opportunity for women in the industry.” DOCUMENT would like to thank all of our advisory bard members for their efforts and guidance in making this issue possible.
