Mailing Systems Technology - July/August 2008 - (Page 6) PUBLISHER Editor’s Note BY DAN O’ROURKE Ron Brent Dan O’Rourke, CMM dan.o@rbpub.com EDITOR MANAGING EDITOR Erin Eagan erin.e@rbpub.com Robert Barrette, Jim Cochran, Terrence M. Doeberl Mark Fallon, Edmond Francis, Marshall Keith James Kate Muth, Harry Stephens, John Wolf Rachel Spahr rachel@rbpub.com CONTRIBUTING WRITERS A Few Housekeeping Items This issue of Mailing Systems Technology features our “Who’s Who in the Mailing Industry” segment. The Who’s Who section is dedicated to those in our industry providing you with goods and services. If you are looking for a handy shortcut to mail industry resources, this Who’s Who is the resource tool for you. Check it out for a closer look at companies you have seen at shows, received direct mail from or just heard about — a resource providing solutions and ideas. Let our Who’s Who be your guide. It’s no secret that businesses are hurting and that your operation is likely under some severe costcutting constraints. Transportation costs are going through the roof, and to compensate, you must cut operational costs. Many companies make the mistake of first cutting training budgets. This is a huge mistake. If you want your operation to lag and falter, cutting training will do it faster than anything. This is especially true of travel-based training. Interacting with your peers is one of the best methods of discovering cost-saving methods used in business (and by your competitors). You must keep abreast of mail industry developments and learn what’s effective for increasing production and containing costs. By hunkering down with a bunker mentality, you’re going to fail. A good step in the right “face-to-face” education direction? — our mailing track in the Document Strategy Forum this September 10-12 at the Hyatt regency O’Hare in Chicago. Make your plans now. Mailing Systems Technology is now well into the development and operation of our multi-channel information model. With most new technology-based program offerings, there may be a few bugs. As we refine and expand this new and exciting model, we want to be sure everyone who wishes to participate in the various methods of communication we now offer — print, digital, e-news, enewsletters, web, events and forums — has the opportunity (and tools) to do so. We have received a few enquiries regarding issues with receiving the various electronic versions. If you have attempted to subscribe to any of our offerings and feel there may have been problems subscribing or in our delivery of electronic information, please email me at dan.o@rbpub.com. Remember to check your “junk mail” folder to see if our emails have inadvertently gone into it. If they have, please select the “Not Junk” button. Also, if you opt out of our emails, (i.e. notification about a webcast or the e-newsletter), you are automatically opted out of any e-communication from us. We also need your assistance to assist you! As we prepare to evaluate input into our annual Wage & Operations Survey, I want to thank all of you who have completed the survey. I also want to ask the rest to PLEASE participate. The results, presented in our September and November issues, are your view into the mailing industry — your “where do we stand” look at your operation. The key to keeping the results of this survey the best and most comprehensive in the mailing industry is your input. So, again, I ask for you to take the time to complete the survey by simply logging on to www.MailingSystemsTechnology.com. We’ll crunch the numbers and let you know where you — and your operation — stand. The more input, the better the results. As always, thanks for reading Mailing Systems Technology.
