Mailing Systems Technology - September/October 2008 - (Page 6) PUBLISHER Editor’s Note BY DAN O’ROURKE Ron Brent Dan O’Rourke, CMM dan.o@rbpub.com EDITOR MANAGING EDITOR Erin Eagan erin.e@rbpub.com Thanks! It’s survey results time again! This issue features our annual Wage and Operations Survey – Part I: Wages and Staffing (Part II: Operations will appear in the November/December issue). For the past 19 years, we have presented this survey. It is the industry’s longest running and most comprehensive mail operations survey. We analyzed 644 mail center operations, representing over 16,000 employees, from every state in the continental US; a record number of responses. Again this year, our staff has devoted a considerable amount of time and effort in compiling, analyzing and reporting the survey information. The results show an accurate and comprehensive picture of mail center operations in our industry. The results allow you to compare your operation to that of your peers — to ascertain where you meet, exceed and sometimes fail to stack up. Check out the survey results closely. They’re good stuff. As Marll Thiede points out in her survey remarks, this survey takes a bit of time to complete, and we recognize you have a very busy schedule. I want to send a giant THANK YOU to all of you who participated in the survey. This industry owes you its gratitude for taking the time and making the effort in completing and returning the survey. You’re doing your share. As Mailing Systems Technology, in conjunction with our publishing partner DOCUMENT, fast approaches our first Mailing Systems Technology Conference (September 10 -12, Hyatt Regency O’Hare), I want to thank some of those who made it possible. First our presenters (in order of appearance): • Pitney Bowes, Group 1 Software, Kevin Conti, Director of Mailing Solutions at Pitney Bowes Software, and David Robinson, Director of Address Quality for Pitney Bowes, for the tutorial Developing and Deploying an Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMB) Strategy • Barbara Knight, Senior Consultant with The Berkshire Company, for the 5 Biggest Cost Reductions You Can Implement • Mark Taylor, Red Roller and Taylor Systems Engineering Corporation, for Making Yourself More Valuable • Vera Angelico, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Environmental Architect, for Greening Your Operations • Bart Alvarez, Document Handling Product Sales Manager for Hasler Mailing Systems, and David L. Wilkinson, PE Manager, ADF Engineering Pitney Bowes Workflow Solutions, for Understanding the Operational Process. (Yep, Pitney Bowes and Hasler together!) • Mark M. Fallon, The Berkshire Company for Cutting-Edge Technology • Kate Muth, Association for Postal Commerce, for What the Future Holds And last, but certainly not least, Joel Dunkel and his staff at Event Evolution for doing their usual stellar job of setting it up and pulling all the pieces together, especially Cierra Brent for her leadership in organizing all the details. Thank you all so very much! This is the best lineup of presenters I have ever seen at a mailing conference (even if I do say so myself ) — it’s condensed excellence. If it is bang for the buck you’re looking for — be there! As always, thanks for reading Mailing Systems Technology. Vera Angelico, John L.
