Mailing Systems Technology - January/February 2009 - (Page 6) editor’s note with Dan O’Rourke PUBLISHER Ron Brent EDITOR Changes Abound As we at Mailing Systems Technology head into 2009, we want to offer you our products in the venue that you desire. As a result, we’re doing a bit of a “makeover.” Readers’ surveys indicate that you want your information in shorter, more concise pieces. In that light, we are changing a significant portion of our presentation method to “departments.” These departments will appear in all venues (print, e-news, web) and allow us to present more detailed information from a consistent source and with a specific focus. In addition to our regular feature articles, all print editions will include ongoing departments on Real Life Management with Wes Friesen, Manager of Revenue Collection & Community Offices, for Portland General Electric; Best Practices with Mary Ann Bennett, Industry Consultant and Founder The Bennett Group, Inc. and Mailing Training Institute; Software Bytes with Chris Lein, Executive Vice President for BCC Software; Everything IMB with David Robinson, Director of Address Quality and Kevin Conti, Director of Mailing Solutions of Pitney Bowes Group 1 Software; Employing Technology with Kemal Carr, President of Madison Advisors; Ship It with Mark Taylor, leading authority on parcel shipping; What You Think (reader survey results) with Jacquelyn McPeak, President of Mail Management Enterprises LLC; and From the Source (USPS Rules & Regs) with David Shoenfeld, Senior Vice President, Mailing Services, USPS. Print editions will include two columns: Reality Check with Wanda Senne, National Director of Postal Development for World Marketing; and Pushing the Envelope with Kate Muth, President of Muth Communications. E-News editions will include the usual feature articles as well as new departments and columns on Practical Data Entry with Melina Bozak, Mailing List Manager.; Going Green with Vera Angelico, Environmental Architect; Nonprofit Issues with Tony Conway, President of the Alliance of NonProfit Mailers; Balancing the Scales with Joy Leong of the Leong Law Firm LLC, and consulting company, Joy Leong Consulting, LLC; and In the Trenches with Mike Porter, President of Print/Mail Consultants. In addition, we will begin web-based columns and departments on our newly designed website (www.MailingSystemsTechnology.com) with regular features from Gene Del Polito, President of PostCom; and John Stewart, President of Q. P. Consulting, Inc. All in all, this is about as expert a group as has ever been assembled in one mailing industry publication on a regular basis. I want to extend a giant THANK YOU to each and every one of them for agreeing to share their expertise and time with our readers. In addition to upgrading our content presentation, we want to provide you with options on how you receive the information we provide. While we will of course still provide our print edition via hardcopy, we want to offer you the option of the print issue via a digital version. We are hearing from more who are environmentally conscious and want to cut the amount of paper in their professional and personal lives. As an industry, mailers must adapt to changing times. We must use electronic and hardcopy communications in conjunction to provide our customers the best and most economical solution and to provide our organizations with effective and economical options. One final note, if you are a print-only subscriber, we would like your email address. We have breaking news that we distribute via email and want to be sure you’re totally covered. As always, thanks for reading Mailing Systems Technology.
