Parcel - July 2008 - (Page 18) on the mark What is your biggest parcel problem? Is it outof-control shipping costs? Are your customers satisfied? Is your shipping operation as efficient as possible? Do too many shipping mistakes and errors drive you crazy? The good news is that the solution to your problems is right in your hand. Imagine how your life could be if you didn’t have any of these problems. This edition of PARCEL — the who’s who of the parcel industry — is a rich resource of experts that can help you with just about any shipping problem. Here, I will show you how to leverage this opportunity for maximum results. It won’t take a whole lot of your time, and the payoff can be huge. Over 20 years ago, one of my teachers, Dr. Fernando Flores, taught a course on learning. Many times people ask me how they can quickly learn about the parcel industry. They don’t teach much about it in school, and there are not many books on the subject. If you want to learn a new game, the first thing you need to do is to understand the rules, the players, the game board or field and the strategy for winning. You by mark taylor, MBA, DLP could go to games and watch others, but you probably wouldn’t understand much without someone explaining it to you, since the way we learn is through language. We are only able to produce effective action when we understand the game. The best way to quickly gain knowledge about parcel shipping is to immerse yourself in this who’s who in the parcel industry. Start by thinking about the problems that you want to solve, and then read this magazine from cover to cover, looking for who or what can help you. You will learn who the players are in this industry, discover the common problems that parcel shippers face, gain knowledge of the unique language and jargon that every industry utilizes, see what types of solutions are available and find out different strategies for solving parcel problems. This edition can help you to do research, make connections and possibly find a vendor or consultant that can solve your problem. Many times in our busy days, we don’t take the time to speculate on new possibilities. We are in such a rush that we frantically proceed in trying to resolve the next crisis. The problem is that this is a mood that is ineffective for problem solving. Once you have invested in reading through this publication, you will want to call people by phone, send them an email or meet them in person. Your objective will be to have what Dr. Flores called a “conversation for possibilities.” 18 July 2008 www.PARCELindustry.com http://www.dmgincorporated.com http://www.dmgincorporated.com http://www.PARCELindustry.com
