Parcel - November 2008 - (Page 6) editor’s note Dan O’Rourke Another Great Show! I’m ecstatic, and must admit somewhat relieved, that in this tough economy my faith in our industry and its members is again confirmed. We have just completed our 5th Annual PARCEL Forum — titled Stay Ahead of the PACKage — and it was another great success. The year’s forum actually grew in scope and attendance — not something many conferences can claim given the tough times we’re experiencing. The credit goes to many: Thanks to EventEvolution for the planning and management of the show — Joel Dunkel, Cierra Brent and the entire staff did their usual stellar jobs of planning and organizing. Thanks to our corporate sponsors, Pitney Bowes and the United States Postal Service and our special events sponsors, Morgan Stanley and Endicia as well as our vendor sponsors — all 57 of them. Thanks to our keynoters: James A. Tompkins, President & CEO of Tompkins Associates, who focused on the seven habits successful fulfillment operations all have in common, and Ruth Y. Goldway, Commissioner, U. S. Postal Regulatory Commission, who discussed the role of the PRC and how it impacts shippers. Thanks to our Carrier Roundtable Panel, which was moderated by William Greene, Executive Director, Morgan Stanley, and featured Jerry Beyl, VP of Worldwide Sales for FedEx; James Cochrane, VP Ground Shipping for USPS; Bill Lewandowski, VP Strategic Accounts for UPS; Conal Finnegan, VP of Strategic Initiatives & Business Development for Purolator USA; and Rob Shirley, CEO of XPship who represented the regional carriers. Thanks to the session presenters and speakers — you did great! The more than 30 sessions, workshops and roundtables received a rating of 3.85 out of 4 for speaker knowledge and 3.5 out of 4 for session content. A huge thanks to our PARCEL Forum Conference Advisory Board: Brain Coller, Medline Industries; Kimberly Cox, Bracco Diagnostics; Herman Dunst & Sean Hunt, Medifast, Inc.; Gerardo Figueroa, Frito-Lay, Inc.; Brenda Jackson, Internal Revenue Service; Kathy Kuechle, Fingerhut Fulfillment; Brian Morgan, Baxter Healthcare; Oscar Murray, DITAN; Rocco Rinaldi, Pirelli Tire of North America; Douglas Spangler, Abercrombie & Fitch; Lisa Tegtmeyer, CDW; and Dave Traut, Follett Higher Education. The Board’s input on content, speakers and networking is the real key to the success of the educational sessions. And a very special thanks to all of you attendees — it’s you that provide the critical ingredient for success. Thanks for your support and your participation. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to meet and talk with many of you — and to get your input on what works, what doesn’t and on how to improve our forum and our publications. Mark your calendars! PARCEL Forum 2009 will take place October 5-7 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare. The PARCEL Forum will be co-located with the DOCUMENT Strategy Forum and the Mailing Systems Technology Conference. A lot of bang for the buck! As always, thanks for reading PARCEL. 6 November 2008 www.PARCELindustry.com http://www.PARCELindustry.com
