Personal Fitness Professional - June 2008 - (Page 35) [SPONSORED BY] BICEP CURL [WITH VERSA-TUBE] START: Press the tube into the notches on opposite sides of the Functional Training Board. The further apart the notches, the more difficult the exercise. Stand on the Functional Training Board with equal weighting in both feet, and hold the tube with the palms facing forward. ACTION: Keeping the abdominals engaged and the elbows tucked against the sides of the body, slowly curl the hands up toward the chest/shoulders. Return to the start; repeat. SQUAT/SHOULDER PRESS [VERSA-TUBE] START: Carefully stand on the board with equal weighting in both feet. The Versa-Tube may be anchored under the feet or pressed into the notches on the board (the notches used should be on opposite ends of the board). Feet should be hip-distance apart or slightly wider, with knees and toes tracking in the same direction. Hold the tube with the palms facing forward and the hands at shoulder level. ACTION: Keeping the knees from protruding past the toes, slowly push the hips back and lower the body into a squat while pressing upward with the hands until the arms are extended overhead. Do not lower the glutes past knee level. Slowly return to the start with both the upper and lower body. PUSH-UP (WITH TWIST) START: Grasp the sides of the log, and position it in front of the body at chest height with the elbows slightly bent. ACTION: Keeping the bag positioned out in front of the body, perform a squat. Bend at the knees and hips until the thighs are parallel with the floor. Sit back on the heels to keep the knees positioned over the feet to reduce the incidence of lower back and knee discomfort. Pause briefly, and then extend the legs to return to the starting position.
