Personal Fitness Professional - August 2008 - (Page 34) [ SPOTLIGHT] KRYS TAL @M Y MIES.COM OM RM PE SU KRYSTAL DAVIS CERTIFICATIONS & EDUCATION NESTA Certified Personal Trainer and Adventure Boot Camp coach; SCW Pre/Post-Natal Fitness Specialist; Health and Sports Science degree from University of Oklahoma. HER FORTE One of my specialties is fat loss for women, whether in my SuperMommies Fitness programs for moms or the boot camp, which is exclusively for women. The second is unconventional workouts, especially outdoor workouts; I pride myself in having the ultimate out-of-gym experience. My fitness theory is “shock-and-awe,” known formally as muscle cell fusion. The great thing about training women is that they train their whole family tree, which is very powerful. Although we don’t teach the toddlers and babies fitness, when we shout out, “Push up!” they assume the push-up position along with their moms! For nutrition, I tell moms to switch foods and not tell their kids or husbands. A few weeks or months after they switch to whole wheat pasta or lean turkey, they are astonished to know that they were eating healthily. They didn’t have to change their diet; they just made a simple adjustment. | 817 .71 9 34 AUGUST2008 · WWW.FIT-PRO.COM 9 01 .1 KRYSTAL’S GOALS Right now, we have four locations around the country. My short-term goal is to expand the number of locations, and I want to expand the programs to include pre-natal yoga and a “mommy and me” yoga program. My long-term goal is to expand our fitness company and open up a fitness facility that is totally out-of-thegym and for the entire family; fathers can come in and do a “300” type of workout, kids can enroll in a karate class, etc. I feel that, as a woman, a professional and a wife, fitness for the entire family is important. I consider it child abuse to let children sit down and watch movies or play video games excessively. Families need to be active and treat their bodies to exercise, rather than TV and video games. I would also like to help some of the most underserved people of society: the developmentally retarded. Although some participate in the Special Olympics, they are inactive for the rest of the year. I’d like to go out and do a weekly exercise class at different levels with fitness professionals who would donate their time to help them. TAKING KNOWLEDGE SERIOUSLY I think new trainers think, “All I have to get is fitness certification and an education, and I’ll get a job,” but that’s not how it works. If you are not knowledgeable about your profession — especially the fitness profession — you are not credible. Pulling in other experts, such as dieticians and physicians, to help my clients get better bodies also increases credibility. What separates certain professionals from the rest of the pack is how serious they are about their career. http://WWW.FIT-PRO.COM
