Personal Fitness Professional - November/December 2008 - (Page 7) [ LETTER S H E LBY M U R P H FROM THE EDITOR ] Y [ED I AS YOUR CLIENTS BUSY THEMSELVES THROUGH THE HOLIDAY SEASON, stop and consider what you could give them that would bring the most value into their lives. Perhaps it’s a gift — a trinket of gratitude or an unforgettable memento. Maybe it’s a client appreciation event, complete with wine and appetizers, a masseuse and a string quartet. Or could it be something far simpler with more profound effects? Gifts and events are always appreciated — and sometimes expected — so I don’t think you can ever go wrong on those routes. However, in addition to a gift or a gathering, consider what you could do to confirm that you always have your client’s interest at heart. Maybe a 30-minute meeting, free of charge, with each client to review accomplishments and set new goals is in order. Maybe it’s a handwritten card, individualized to each client, that says how proud you are of their successes and how honored you are to train them. Or maybe it’s a front-door delivery of your favorite homemade high-protein banana muffins, just to let them know that their health is your first priority. Yes, all of those ideas are time-intensive. Time is the thing we are often so short of but can mean the most when we give it freely. Our clients pay us well for our time. This holiday season, think of ways you can give away some time to those who value it most. What you give out always comes back to you… twofold.
