The radiation balloon uses a vacuum to remove excess fluid and to adhere closely to often irregularly shaped lumpectomy cavities in order to deliver reportedly precise radiation dosing through multiple seed lumens. Treatment time is reduced to days versus weeks, and accurate, targeted radiation dosing decreases potential recurrence of cancer cells in the lumpectomy site, according to the manufacturer. Dozens of patients have been treated to date at MAASTRO Clinic in the Netherlands, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany, and Baton Rouge General’s Pennington Cancer Center in Louisiana. The ARTISTE is engineered specifically for Adaptive Radiation Therapy (ART). The linear accelerator is an integrated imaging and workflow solution that offers a comprehensive portfolio of image-guided and advanced treatment delivery protocols, including in-room CT imaging capabilities and a new multileaf collimator, 160 MLC. TheraView is the cost-effective, clinically proven image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) system. With over 600 TheraViews installed worldwide, more and more clinicians are discovering the benefits of a real-time, isocentrically mounted imaging solution. Designed to be versatile, TheraView can be installed with zero downtime on virtually any brand/model linear accelerator. Contact us today to schedule your on-site demonstration. Designed for the precise needs of Radiation Therapy, TheraView provides clinicians a full scope of imaging and diagnostic features: • TargetCheck Automated Beam Alignment Verification Software • Real-time comparison of set-up image vs. current treatment image • DICOM export • Low dose set-up imaging (=>3mu) • Clear and concise menu operations • Single and Double exposure • Dynamic set-up images and treatment movie loops • Magnification & Image sharpening • Image annotation • Optional optical disk archival SM Siemens Medical Solutions www.usa.siemens.com/medical Cyberknife Robotic Radiosurgery Offers High-Dose Targeting The CyberKnife System, which will be showcased at ASTRO 2008 by Accuray, aims to deliver high-dose, hypofractionated radiosurgery treatments. Using robotic technologies and continual image guidance, the CyberKnife System aims to deliver targeting accuracy with the ability to automatically correct for intrafraction target motion without interrupting treatment or having to reposition the patient. The system delivers beams that move in real time with 3D respiratory motion throughout the respiratory cycle.
