Imaging Technology News - October 2008 - (Page 30) AM-LCDs SPOTLIGHT ON New LCD Line Features X-CAL Calibration Software The WIDE P-Series of LCDs by Double Black Imaging consists of a 2MP monochrome and color, a 3MP monochrome and color and a 5MP monochrome LCD for mammography. This line will feature higher brightness levels on each LCD, digital uniformity control, 12-bit processing, a retractable front sensor for true DICOM calibration and backlight sensor for luminance control and bonded protective panels. DBI will be bundling these LCDs with a high-speed graphic controller (PCI-X or PCI-e) and X-CAL calibration software. These LCDs are compatible with MAC operating systems. DBI is including X-Cal Calibration software, their proprietary package for automatic DICOM calibration and display quality assurance, with all WIDE P-Series LCD systems, allowing for both complete QA of their LCDs and front DICOM calibration. Portable Ultrasound To Go INSIDE this Adaptable CT Scanner Offers Whole Organ Functional Imaging Siemens Medical Solutions gained FDA 510(k) market clearance for the SOMATOM Definition AS, said to be the first adaptive CT scanner, adapting to each patient’s clinical situation, available in 40-slice, 64-slice and 128-slice configurations. The new system reportedly provides a benefit with the Adaptive Dose Shield technology, eliminating unnecessary over radiation. The Adaptive 4D Spiral mode of the SOMATOM Definition AS is able to address functional imaging (perfusion images of blood flow over time) of whole organs. This allows Siemens to offer dynamic information of up to 27 centimeters. In the case of a stroke, physicians can use whole-organ perfusion imaging not only for a small part of the brain but for all of it.
