One of the fundamental concepts of the Association for Maintenance Professionals is to enable maintenance and reliability professionals to share knowledge and experience directly in order to reach out to the tens of thousands of maintenance professionals who are not currently being served and are otherwise not connected in any way. The aim of the Association for Maintenance Professionals is no less than connecting every maintenance and reliability professional around the world. Membership belongs to the individual and activities include: Breakthrough Benchmarking Sessions – Half Day or Full Day sessions designed around single topics that include educational presentations and dynamic real time benchmarking with results reviewed during the session. The first Breakthrough Benchmarking Session took place at RCM-2008/EAM-2008 in Las Vegas and dealt with Reliability Initiative Leadership. Several live event and facilitated web based Breakthrough Sessions are scheduled for 2008 and 2009. These sessions are designed to support your reliability journey one subject area at a time as well as providing an indication of your progress in comparison with other companies. Both live and web based events are planned. Live Training Events – The Association for Maintenance Professionals offers one day training sessions through training partners at various locations around the world. Plant Tours – Members are treated to various opportunities to visit other plants to explore different approaches to maintenance and reliability across a variety of industries and organizations. Bonus Events at Maintenance & Reliability Conferences – Members can take advantage of exclusive Association sponsored activities at events like the International Maintenance Conference, MARCON, Predictive Maintenance Technology Conference, Euromaintenance and more. Online Body of Knowledge – Members enjoy access to one of the deepest sources for maintenance and reliability case studies, papers, presentations, tutorials, keynote presentations, Uptime Magazine back issues, RELIABILITY Magazine back issues, conference proceedings, recorded web workshops and much more. Should Industry Associations Be Revenue Driven or Mission Driven? As most traditional not-for-profit associations experience growth they become more business oriented, that is they become dependent on new sources of profits. With paid staff and management service fees, the hunt for revenue can easily overtake the priority of mission delivery. Just because they operate as a not-for-profit association does not mean that they do not earn profit. Public filings show some maintenance focused not-forprofit organizations earn close to $1 million in tax free profits. This money in theory should go a long way toward mission delivery. No organization should operate with a sense of entitlement. They should earn your membership through extraordinary value delivery. It is simple to find out if your maintenance organization is mission driven or revenue driven. Begin by characterizing each communication you receive – is it delivering something of value or is it requesting revenue? Your answer will become obvious over time.
