Up Time Magazine- April/May 2008 - (Page 6) upfront It’s the People, People What started as a whisper in the maintenance and reliability industry years ago has now turned into a loud chorus. It is echoed in several of the stories in this issue. From the feature article on implementing a reliability initiative to the last article on vibration training, and in many between, like Heinz Bloch’s article entitled “People Make It Happen”, the recurring theme is that, well, people do make it happen. For many years, as organizations looked for increased productivity and reliability, they became focused on the potential glories that the next great technology promised. Make no mistake, as fast as technological advances are made, the potential gains they do offer are tremendous. But there just happens to be only word that can turn potential gains into actual gains. That word is implementation. And the last time I checked, implementation still falls to the realm of human beings. Without implementation, both the technology and its potential sit in the box. It takes the people to unleash it. Luckily, we’re starting to get it. Smart organizations understand that the best investment they can make is in their people. Educate and train your workforce and both your employees and your organization reap the rewards. It’s a classic win-win situation. People are also what the newest not-for-profit maintenance organization, the Association for Maintenance Professionals (AMP) is all about. AMP’s goal is to be the conduit that allows all the maintenance and reliability professionals around the world to connect and to share their knowledge and experiences. When we connect with like-minded professionals, we can learn and we can teach. Then we all grow stronger. Read more about AMP on pages 16-17. Please don’t forget about the 3rd annual Uptime PdM Program of the Year Awards. The deadline for entering is June 2nd. Please go to our website, www. uptimemagazine.com, to learn more about the awards and to download an application. Who knows, maybe you’re involved in a winning program and you just don’t know it yet. Enter to find out. As always, thank you for reading. We appreciate your support, and hope you find value within these pages.
