Up Time Magazine- April/May 2008 - (Page 65) used to settle legal and contractual disputes, for example when a bearing fails contrary to the advice given by the analyst. On the one hand, if the analyst has been trained by Acme Data Collector Training School, and has passed their “Level II” exam, then he/she will need to find expert witnesses to support the recommendations given to the client. On the other hand, if the analyst has passed a “Category III” exam that follows the ISO 18536-2 standard, and has performed the measurements, diagnosis and prognosis based on the relevant ISO standards, then that analyst has much firmer ground on which to stand. So, for peace of mind, and to ensure that the vibration analysts working across the corporation (independent of country, language, and location) are all correctly trained and certified to do their prescribed jobs, following the ISO standards is a very smart decision. according to an international standard. When you are certified “Category II”, or better yet “Category III”, you know you are world-class. Being well trained and certified provides credentials and “membership” to a world-wide fraternity of like-minded, similarly qualified analysts. Anyone who has been through the course and exam will tell you that it is a challenging experience, but it is also a rewarding experience. Some of these benefits relate to the strengths of the training course (the power to understand and apply your new knowledge), but stepping up and taking the exam shows that you have what it takes. improve training so that more people can be successful with vibration analysis. While vibration monitoring systems continue to become more affordable and useable, and training becomes more assessable and effective, vibration analysis will have a strong future.
