Up Time Magazine- June/July 2008 - (Page 57) events. It stands to reason that, if a corporation or enterprise provides a well-thought-out and meaningful incentive program for their personnel to save the company money and/or increase operational efficiencies by employing effective RCA processes, positive results in the company’s overall performance easily could be achieved. Recommendation – Create an incentive policy for demonstrated savings related to the successful use of RCA in all maintenance and reliability programs. Leaders in Lubricants Conclusion By directing corrective measures at root causes, it is hoped that the likelihood of problem recurrence will be minimized. However, it is recognized that complete prevention of recurrence by a single intervention is not always possible. Errors can occur in every step of an RCA process. Readers are invited to review commonly occurring errors mentioned in this discussion in relation to their own RCA programs to determine the validity of the corresponding recommendations. Perhaps one, several, or (why not?) all of them may prove useful. Pareto analysis, named after Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, is a statistical technique in decision making that is used for selection of a limited number of tasks that produce significant overall effect. It uses the Pareto principle - the idea that by doing 20% of work you can generate 80% of the advantage of doing the entire job. Or in terms of quality improvement, a large majority of problems (80%) are produced by a few key causes (20%). Did You Know . . . . LE Enhanced Lubricants™– Essential for critical applications where reliability is a must! Carlos J. Pernett, Wood Group Colombia S.A., is a Reliability Techniques Engineer and is a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP). Since 2003 has implemented reliability processes like RIM, RCA, RCM, CMMS, P&S and CBM in the oil, gas, petrochemical and chemical industries for different companies such as BP Colombia, Star Energy, BP TT, Rohm and Haas, Dow AgroSciences, Ecopetrol, Manuelita and Abocol. He is responsible for implementing RIM and RCA in all facilities being serviced by Wood Group and designed the Wood Group RIM Web Tool, which is used to collect information for all events that affect Asset Utilization in Wood Group services facilities. With the RIM tool, information can be collected at a central location from any place around the world using a Web platform. Carlos was also responsible for upgrading the Wood Group RCA Web Tool that is used to collect information related to RCA executed at Wood Group serviced sites, as well as used to manage the execution of any corrective action generated from those RCA’s. Currently, he is working on integrating both tools on the same web platform to simplify the auditing of any RCA process. Carlos graduated from the Universidad del Atlántico in Colombia with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He can be reached at carlos.pernett@woodgroup.com or +57 (1) 6238653.
