grease to a seal tight boot made from silicone with a polycarbonate insert and back shell. The maintenance team at this paper mill thought the dielectric grease would provide additional protection from the caustic soda solution. They did not realize that the dielectric grease was not compatible with silicone. As a result of adding the grease, (still visible inside the accelerometer) the silicone boot swelled allowing the caustic soda solution to leak around the boot and chemically attack the polycarbonate insert Figure 9 – A Hand Full of Connector Trouble and back shell.
